Hey, I've been using propecia for several years and I have not lost hair, but I also have not gained.

I also use Nioxin System 2.

I think I'd like to try 5% Minoxidil. Anyone know where I could get it at a decent price?

I don't have a membership @ Cosco, BJs or Sam's Club.

FYI

TIA

I don’t know anything about the medications that you have mentioned, but I can tell you (solely from my personal experience) that I put a bit of taurine and a bit of collagen powder in my ice blended protein shakes and I have a nice full head of hair. Obviously, everybody’s health is different so I won’t blindly just tell you to try these things—but you might want to look into seeing if they might be worth a try for you.

I was using minoxidil when my hair started to thin about 2 years ago... and I ended up with an allergic reaction to it after a couple months before I noticed any change of hair-loss. full-stop on that, and onwards on and baldwards with the thinning.

I started taking finasteride 20 years ago when the sides of my hairline started receding a bit. Pretty much stopped all hair loss since.
I started taking finasteride by prescription about 5 years ago as a way of managing my PSA levels. Aside from keeping the PSA in check, it stopped my hair loss, which was a nice bonus.

timely thread, just made an appointment with my dermatologist yesterday, didn't really think the medications worked that well so somewhat encouraging reading some posts.

How'd it go?
So had the appt, dermatologist ran through the options and recommended propecia. Have you (or anyone else who wants to chime in) had any side effects? Dermatologist said could be sexual side effects:frown:, but also that the odds are pretty low. Tbh, my hair loss at this point isn't terrible but is starting to get noticeable and everything I've heard is that you don't want to wait until it gets too bad. But the side effects make me a little nervous.

ETA: also if the propecia seems to be working why are you looking to try Minoxidil?

I'll defer to the experts who have tried both but my understanding is Minoxidil just grows hair back while Propecia stops the hair loss.

I haven't used propecia but read this today which seems important.

"Mark Millich, 26 years old and insecure about his thinning hair, was curious about the ads he saw promising to reverse his hair loss. He completed a 14-question intake on Hims.com and received a bottle of finasteride pills days later. He never spoke to a doctor. Soon after taking the medicine, Millich said he felt strange symptoms. He woke up one day anxious, dizzy and slurring his words. Later his libido plunged, and his genitals shrank and changed shape. His doctor said the symptoms were caused by the drug. His wife, Marie Linne von Berg, said the symptoms upended their lives.

Finasteride, the generic name for Propecia, is a popular hair-loss treatment that has been on the market for three decades with potential side effects including sexual dysfunction and depression. But a new generation of young men are discovering the medicine—and its potential risks. That is largely because they are peppered with ads on social media pitching hair-loss medications from telehealth companies, which unlike drugmakers aren’t required to disclose side effects and other risks in advertisements. "

So he got off-market drugs without a prescription and took them anyway? Oof. And his genitals shrank and changed shape?

Who is he suing and how much is he looking for? Not buying this story, or there are at least red flags there.

Or just stay out of the stock thread and stop looking at your brokerage accounts. Either way…BTW, just going for some lighthearted humor…

Where are you getting the bolded from? Seems like he ordered Finasteride from Hims which requires a script and hair loss is something its often prescribed for.

The quote above yours. Does that sound like he got a script or presented a script to you?

Yep, that's how you often get prescribed male enhancements online and it wasn't for some off market use

Said he never spoke to a doctor, so how did he get a script? I think you're being too defensive of how this all happened. Why you'd read it that way I don't know. Perhaps you like those companies. I have no beef with them. But you need to talk to a doctor or have previously seen him or her about the issue to get a script to the best of my knowledge.

If I'm wrong and all it takes is a questionnaire to get a script, then something is a bit wrong with the system. But I'm pretty sure it's not that, which would make it off-market, or if we're getting hung up on technical terms, at least illegally procured and illicit in use.

No side effects for me.

He got a prescription and it was for his hair loss was my point. No reason to read anything else into it. Whether you disagree or just aren't aware of the current online script process for some drugs is another issue.

Just shave it off. Best decision I made was just to accept reality and move on. So much better for mental health.

I think you and I have a fundamental disagreement about him having a prescription and it’s no use to proceed. I don’t know how on earth you deduce he got a prescription from the story. That’s the story’s whole point.

Ok, this is my last attempt to explain this to you. You can get a prescription on Hims without actually going to a doctor. Answer a bunch of questions and you get a script. Some states require a video chat with a doc but many like mine didn't. There's a reason these sites are so popular. Telehealth is a real thing.

After reading the article it becomes clear. The article, as blurbed and in context, leads one to believe that there was no prescription because there was no consult. The questionnaire is the consult. Got it. It's reviewed by a licensed clinician and a prescription is written. I have no problem with that. Side effects should be up front, but that's a consumer disclosure issue rather than condemning the whole practice.

By the way, the guy at the link? Mark Millich? He's got almost all of his hair. That's what my hair looks like and I'm not chasing finasteride because of a natural widow's peak at fifty-one. That's ludicrous. When my hair starts to thin at seventy-five, then I'll consider it, but I'll be too old to care by then and my mind will be on different issues.
