Hall of Fame Game: Dallas vs. Miami (1 Viewer)

Surprised there is no thread, so here we go.

For those you watching this, I have to say most impressive so far is Phillip Tanner for Dallas. Tough running, breaking tackles left and right. He looks really good.

I was just looking for this. Missed the 1st quarter unfortunately. I thought the game started at 9. From what I've seen in the 2nd, I agree, Tanner looks good.

For those watching Tannehill, he was in for the first few series.

1st series, he handed off to Miller, who promptly fumbled and that ended the first series.

2nd series, some good runs by Miller. Tannehill threw a couple of times, but his passes were behind the receivers. Looked a bit rusty.

3rd series, passes were a bit better. Moved the chains for a 1st down and then his time in the game was over.

The Cowboy offensive line is doing pretty well. Their rookie center who has taken a lot of heat because Dallas reached for him at their draft slot looks good. He is a smart guy who is running that offensive line already, I think he'll be fine....can't say the same about their 2nd round pick TE Escobar.

All of the big name receivers on both teams are not playing, Romo did not play. Miami has been very vanilla on both sides of the ball as expected, very little to cheer about.

I think we're looking at two average defenses at best, not the worst but not top 10's either.

Kyle Orton started for Dallas, Romo did not play. Orton looked sharp and moved Dallas down to about the Miami 40 before having to punt. He was replaced by Stephens on the next series.

Interestingly enough, according to NFL.com, Tannehill was knocked for the fumble. In watching the play, Tannehill put the ball in the basket for Miller, but Miller never locked onto the ball. The fumble should have been on Miller, but it was credited to Tannehill on the handoff.

Ya was for sure Miller's fault, after seeing those runs and being a Miller owner I am hoping it was nerves

It's the preseason. Stats don't count. Everyone, including coaches, knows that it was Millers fault.

Miami better hope that, Keller, Wallace, and Miller are healthy all year because there doesn't appear to be much after those guys.

True, but for the folks that missed the 1st quarter, they don't know that. Some of these posts need to be for the folks who missed seeing the game. :)

Miami WR Bumphis alligator armed that - good pick 6 return for the rookie LB
Miami receivers are not looking good tonight at all.

In addition, Daniel Thomas just looks pedestrian when running the ball. Miller looked way more explosive when running.

Dallas S Matt Johnson went to the locker room for X-rays on Ankle. He is expected to return.

I would agree, Daniel Thomas hasn't looked good since entering the pros as far as I'm concerned. He's overrated, if he turns out to be their lead back all year and is pretty good then I missed. He's a guy I am very chilly on regardless of his starting status.

Moore takes a 14-yard sack on a naked bootleg. He held the ball way too long and should have thrown it away.

Tanner has to be the biggest revelation of this game. I am bumping down Randle in my rookie rankings, not that I liked him before this. Considering he is clearly behind Dunbar and Tanner, and Tanner is playing great, I can't see myself taking Randle with anything more than a late 3rd Round Pick in rookie drafts.

It's preseason, on top of that, half the starters for both teams are out.

Just had to remind people of this it seems.

After halftime, Miami now has Devlin in at QB and Gray in at RB. Miami O-Line continues to get owned.

That's normal. Fumbles are charged to the last player who had possession of the ball.

What is going on with the sound feed. It's all in Spanish.

ETA. Kids were playing with the remote and thought it was funny to change it on me

Based on tonight's game, here are my over reactions:

Romo is top 5 on my board

Tanner is a 5th rounder

Dropping Wallace from my Super XL START 4QB league

Dropping Csonka from my Lifetime Dynasty team!

My main walk away was the play of Tanner in the first quarter for Dallas. Yes it's preseason, but he showed some tough running with breaking tackles and finishing the runs. I don't believe Tanner is even being drafted at this point, but needless to say, he just made it on a list of players to watch over the next few weeks.

I thought Randle looked pretty good tonight.

The main concern I have with him is his upright running style, but he broke some tackles,

and had decent burst, seems to have the ability to run downhill.

He looked good enough to pick up in some of my dynasty leagues.

The biggest thing I took from this game was Dallas clearly has a new philosophy on offense. They are going to overloa one side of the line with those TEs all year. It will be interesting to see if that means they put Witten on the other side and sometimes come back and hit the weak side with a short passing route and open up running room.

In theory, I'm liking that because I know Witten could destroy people in that area. Miles Austin could really thrive in it and if the idea is to basically unbalance the field and leave Dez Bryan all alone on the opposite side of the field with his matchup then we are going to see a WR with absurd stats because you know he is going to get into a couple of games this year where the defense has no way of matching him or rolling coverage towards him in that situation. He might be the 2009 Chris Johnson (everytime the stats update, you see a 50+ yard TD).

Its pre-season, so let me ratchet myself down a bit but at least in philosophy, I like it.

Sure, you don't want to jump to major conclusions based on the preseason - but there are some things you can learn and watch for. In this game with DeMarco Murray's running style leading to (potential) missed games, I was interested in seeing how the RB2 battle was shaping up in Dallas. All of the backups looked pretty good to me, which tells me whichever back does earn the job, could be a great late round flier in re-drafts.

I thought Dunbar looked good....he only played the 1st series like Orton....Looked like Dallas was treating them like the starters in this game because they are the primary back ups
