HALL OF FAME INDUCTION thread (1 Viewer)

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww you don't like the way he says rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayduuuhs?

God bless Ed and Steve Sabol. One is very, very old and the other is very, very sick. :(
Amen.I can only hope to be that lucid at age 94. Who am I kidding? I'd like to be that sharp now.Steve Sabol looked pretty good for undergoing recent/current radiation/chemo.

Michael Irvin's HOF induction speech in 2007 was - by far - the greatest one I've ever heard. Very moving.

I expect Deion's speech to rival it, and I'll be disappointed if it doesn't.

I agree on Irvin's speech. But Sharpe's is gonna be pretty intense. If I was a betting man...

Rich Eisen tweeter that Deion didn't even write a speech. Apparently he's winging it.

That's where I was unsure. If Sharpe is ALL business, it will be fabulous. Be if he clowns it up, the speech will suffer.

Shannon will be all business. It wouldn't have taken much to get him going backstage right before the event. Between talking about his brother and grandmother, there won't be many dry eyes in the house. Let's not forget Marshall. He's a perfectionist and had the same mindset with his speech as he did when he played. But Deion's could be pretty sweet and really fun. Should be a great night!

Marshall is a good guy, but he doesn't speak passionately like the other two. I'll be surprised if he evokes much emotion.

Marshall's won't be the most passionate. I doubt anyone tops Shannon's for emotion. We're about to find out. Git yer kleenex ready.

Sterling's Stats By Year...he's a longshot at best

Year Age Tm Pos No. G GS Rec Yds Y/R TD

1988 23 GNB WR 84 16 16 55 791 14.4 1

1989 24 GNB WR 84 16 16 90 1423 15.8 12

1990 25 GNB WR 84 16 16 67 1105 16.5 6

1994 29 GNB WR 84 16 16 94 1119 11.9 18

Listen if Art Monk struggles to get in and Cris Carter can barely sniff the Hall of Fame finalist list then Sterling Sharpe has a long way to go

The Rams home blue uniforms (pre-2000 when they switched to the hideous mustard color) are the greatest in NFL history. Period.

Sterling won't make the HOF, but it's only because injury cut his career short IMO. He's one of the best WRs I ever saw play. He was simply awesome.

Yeah, it was a nice gesture on Shannon's part but he has no shot. There are many HOF-caliber players who had their career ended prematurely.

It's curious that Shannon didn't go next-to-last right before Deion. I wonder how they decide the order.

Too much emotion if Shannon and Deion go back to back?

These?http://www.sikids.com/photos/7814/nfl-nicknames/22

They're okay, but never did much for me. I prefer the Deacon Jones era unis: http://www.answersfrommen.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/deacon-jones.jpg
Yep.Best ever.

They looked better on grass in the sun when the team was still in L.A. The uniforms lost a bit inside in the dome.

Lindsay Faulk is Marshall's wife, right? It seemed odd that her caption said "guest of Marshall Faulk".

Remember he put those numbers up 20 years ago in a different era for passing stats. Despite that, he is still 11th all-time in receiving yards per game. He was a 3 time 1st team AP all-pro. Here are the WRs that have 3 or more 1st team AP all-pros since the merger: Sharpe, Rice, T.O., Moss, Harrison, Drew Pearson, Herman Moore, Cliff Branch. In the three main receiving categories (receptions, receiving yards, TDs) he led the league in those categories a combined 6 times, and finished top 5 a combined 12 times in just 7 years (keep in mind that his entire career took place during Rice's prime, making that fact he lead the league in those categories that many times even more impressive). For comparison against some other post-merger HOFers and possible future HOFers, who all played much longer then Sharpe: T.O. lead the league in those categories 3 times and finished top 5 13 times; Moss (5, 17); Harrison (5, 16), Carter (3, 12), Bruce (1, 5); Holt (3, 11); Brown (1, 8); Lofton (0, 6), Largent (2, 11); Reed (0, 5); Monk (1,5); Joiner (0, 5); Irvin (1, 5); Biletnikoff (1, 7); Fitzgerald (3, 7), Andre Johnson (4, 5); Chad Ocho (1, 7); Wayne (1, 7); Ward (0, 7); Stallworth (0, 7); Swann (1, 3); Ellard (1, 7); Branch (3, 7); Pearson (1, 5); H. Moore (2, 7).

Basically, Sharpe was the 2nd best WR in the NFL for a period of 6 years, when the best WR was Jerry Rice. For that and the above he deserves serious consideration for the HOF.
