Handcuff RBs to own week 16 (1 Viewer)

I have a bye week 14 and my RB situation isn't desirable. There are several #2rbsout on the waiver wire, and I am going to pick up one or two in hopes of a lottery ticket. Since I haven't seen a recent thread on Handcuffs I thought I would start one.

Who is the guy(s) to own? Bryce Brown, Turbin, Knile Davis, Mike Bush?

Helu might be a good one as his schedule is good and he is getting some work regardless

Gerhart another one given Peterson lingering groin injury. Perhaps it gets worse or they shut him down with another loss.

Bush also great schedule but he has not performed when given the ball

Greene was 1000 yd rusher past 2 seasons

Davis. With amount of work JC gets if he goes down Davis will get bulk of work

For some reason Joique Bell was sitting on my wire, so I grabbed him. Mainly to block the Bush owner I play this week if his injury was serious.

I'm guessing he's rostered in most leagues, but worth a spot if he's not.

I wouldn't trust Bush if Forte goes down. I think the Bears would roll with Michael Ford, especially if they are eliminated from the playoff race.

I don't really get the logic. You're assuming that a) the starter goes down in the next couple weeks, b) you'll pick the right backup to get (Bryce Brown does you no good if Charles gets hurt) and c) that backup comes in and is effective. Hell of a lottery ticket.

If I had extra roster spots, I'd use them on Ds, if for no other reason than to block my opponents.

I agree completely with this logic.

If a stud RB goes down, are you honestly going to play his backup, without seeing a full game or two from him, in the semi finals or finals of your fantasy league? I don't care how undesireable your RB situation is, there has to be a better option on your team

I would rather pick up QBs or Ds to prevent my opponent from getting them. Ds because so many people just pick up Ds every week in the playoffs for a boost depending on matchups. However, in my league the only Ds worth picking up is maybe Dallas or Buffalo (jacksonville matchup week 15)

There are a couple good QBs on my waivers right now yet: Cutler, Roethlisberger, Rivers (just cut)

Looking ahead, if a starting QB goes down, any one of those starting QBs could fill in nicely. In fact, I'm waiting on a decision on Rodgers next week before I drop him and pick up one of those guys for week 15/16 to start ahead of Luck

I would argue that this is the time to cut your handcuffs and backups in favor of anyone who can help you win now. That is why Rivers was cut in my league. The guy needed a TE- his is out this week I believe and he is set at QB and doesn't need Rivers

I've long been as anti-handcuff as they come (though in part because the main league I played in had open waivers). This year I joined a league with standard waiver rules. I drafted Charles and RBush, then added Joique, less as a handcuff as because I wasn't really sure how the Detroit RB situation would play out. Luckily, that move panned out (including allowing me to sub in Joique last minute when Reggie was out in Week 3), but in the meantime, it never occurred to me to add Knile Davis, mostly because there was no way I would have started him over my backups (FJax, and later, Andre Brown).

Just before the trade deadline I traded both backups for Gronk, and there was absolutely no one decent on the WW. At that point, it finally made sense to pick up Davis. If Charles goes down, I'm probably screwed no matter what, but at least Davis would see a bump in value, whereas anyone else I picked up would be just as lame as they are now.

So in that narrow circumstance, it made sense to pick up a late-season handcuff. But generally, I agree that they're way overrated.

Out of all of those mentioned I'd go with Brown, as he's the likeliest to replicate the production of the main back if thrust into action.

I haven't seen enough of Davis to realistically put him down for Charles numbers, but Brown passes the eye test for me.
