Steelers' Parker aggravates knee injury

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Pro Bowl running back Willie Parker did not practice with the Steelers today after aggravating his injured knee and it is uncertain if he will return after a two-game absence to play in Cincinnati.

Parker, who has rushed for more than 100 yards in his past three games in Cincinnati, stepped in a hole in practice Monday and aggravated the sprained medial collateral ligament in his left knee.

You'd think that franchises worth $100's of millions of dollars WOULD FIX HOLES IN THEIR PRACTICE FIELD.

How about just check for holes?

They have indoor and outdoor fields at their practice facility. I assume this was the outdoor but I still can't believe it has holes...

No wonder this trade just went through on my site:

McNabb, Donovan PHI QB

McGahee, Willis BAL RB

Moss, Santana WAS WR

for

Parker, Willie PIT RB

Edwards, Braylon CLE WR

Might go scoop up Moore.

Dulac's "hole" reference is rather ambiguous...I assumed he meant Parker was running through a hole. But who knows...Playing the Bengals this week if there is any uncertainty about Parker I'd bet he will sit. I think Moore is a good bet for a big day. Definitely a needed hand-cuff for Parker the rest of the season, and a decent pick-up anyway especially in a PPR league.

Don't monitor the whole board. I post when I get alerts and have had a few things first. But, no worries, I will skip posting anything from here on out.

Seems a little different from the vibe of these. The opening post says he aggravated his knee on practice on Monday and not even a mention of anything in these.

[Tue Oct 14, 7:25 PM] Willie Parker revealed for the first time on Monday the true nature of his left knee injury. "Sprained MCL, that's what bothered me, my lateral movement and stuff," Parker said after practicing for the first time today since his injury on Sept. 21. Parker said he's itching to return to action and expects to play Week 7. "I'm ready to play, man. I went out there today and my main focus was to getting timing down, just practicing so I can help the team out the best way I can Sunday."

Yup, but the opening post says he hurt his knee at Monday's practice.

Good point. I am guessing the stepped in the hole thing was from today and the Monday part of the note was a typo.

yup gotcha. thanks. im confused now with these different reports.

Is MeMo the odds-on favorite again to get the majority of the carries this week?

I guess we'll have to wait for Tomlin to comment on the situation.

The guy I am playing this week has Willie Parker and Joe Addai. I just picked up Mewelde Moore and Domonic Rhodes. The only other running back he has is Thomas Jones. Think he will trade me Jones for MM and DR?

(My other backs are S. Slaton, CJ3, and MJD)

Maybe you should trade for a WR.

According to the NFL network Parker was told not to speak about the injury by Tomlin although the reporter said he thought Parker would play because he was laughing about it.

I guess we'll know after tomorrow's and Friday's practice. As a Steelers fan I hope they don't rush him back...

Yes, MM is worth a pick up in all leagues worth a start in PPR leagues. He's starting in my league as MJD is on bye, shoot I even started MM over MJD in a PPR 2 weeks back when they played each other. (Lost out on that one by a couple points but didn't bother my outcome).

Steelers fans will tell you, he's looked pretty good at RB for them. He's not their goaline back in this situation, but he's used inside the red zone with their passing game (ran a real nice wheel route and if Big Ben would have put the ball up a little more, would have been about a 20 yard Td) and good for a solid 3 to 5 receptions a game.

WTF? Come clean already.

we all have atleast one true backup RB on our rosters unless it's a league w/ a very small bench. If any starting RB is a big ? for the remainder of this season, it's gotta be FWP. Grabbing MM if available seems like a no-brainer.

ESPNews reports Pittsburgh Steelers RB Willie Parker (knee) is considered doubtful for the team's Week 7 game.
