Ravens coach John Harbaugh on Terrell Owens: 'We're interested in T.O.'

INDIANAPOLIS -- Might the Baltimore Ravens finally close the deal with WR Terrell Owens?

Remember, the 49ers tried to trade Owens to the Ravens after the 2003 season before T.O. ultimately forced a deal with the Eagles instead.

After his year in Buffalo, Owens is now set to hit the free-agent market, and the Ravens are a team in need of receiving help.

"We're interested in T.O. -- we're interested in all the guys who can make us better," Ravens coach John Harbaugh said at the scouting combine Saturday.

Harbaugh knows Owens from their days with the Eagles. And his team could use help at wideout with leading receiver Derrick Mason also headed for free agency.

"I think he's a good guy and a good player," said Harbaugh, while admitting the Ravens have watched tape of Owens' 2009 season and thought he was more effective than maybe he's gotten credit for despite his limited production (55 catches, 829 yards, 5 TDs) with the Bills.

On a different note, Harbaugh doesn't believe he has a need at safety despite Ed Reed's hints that he might retire after an injury-filled season.

"Ed Reed's playing as far as I know," said Harbaugh. "Medically, we don't have any reason to think he's not going to." -- Nate Davis

Unless Owens takes a bargain basement deal (so they could resign Mason too), they'd be far better off with Mason (and his chemistry with Flacco) over Owens. They need to move Mason off the 1 spot eventually, but they probably ought to look elsewhere than Owens. [through the draft perhaps].

I think this is the perfect spot for T.O.

Joe F will find T.O. on the field, good past history with Harbaugh, and the Ravens can afford him. What more can you ask for

Ravens are built to win now. No matter who they get to eventually replace Ray Lewis, they will not be the same. Ed Reed is getting old quickly too. The time to strike is now and they don't have time to grrom rookie WRs that won't mature for 3-4 years. They tried that with Clayton and Willliams and it just hasn't worked. I think Mason and Owens while both old would make a great duo at WR. Both can go deep when needed and both can carve thru the underside of a defense like Jack the Ripper so I see no downside. And TO wouldn't dare sa y a word with Ray Lewis in the locker room, he'd kick the crap out of TO if he became a circus sideshow.

Let us not forget they have a pretty strong ground game. TO would not be the focus of the defense and likely will get open a lot. And if teams play to stop Flacco and the air attack, the ground game will blow holes thru them the size of Montana.

Only hard part is TO rejected these guys when he demanded the Philly deal, didn't want to play for Baltimore. I'm sure all can be forgiven.

I also like the prospect of Boldin if the price is right. I don't think the 2.25 will get it done. Baltimore and almost no one seems to want to part with a 1st rounder.

Cowboys. Star.

I would disagree that 2.25 wouldn't get a Boldin deal done. I've heard around here that the Cards would take a 2nd [i think they even realize he's not as hot of commodity as a year ago with a couple years left on the deal). The sticking point is going to be a contract.

I'd be shocked if Boldin wasn't gone. No one will pay a 1st [and I don't believe the Cards will demand one]

The Ravens are close to a SB. I'd take a gamble on him. If they just bring what they ended the year with, they won't win the SB. They'll grind out another wild card team and try hard but end up losing.

If they could get either Boldin or Owens, although I usually don't put too much stock in WR's when trying to pick my SB team there's only so many pieces missing on this Ravens team and having an elite WR would bump them up the list that they're already pretty high on.

Question is whether he is still elite. If he is, it's a good move for a team gunning for the title.

fans are so fickle. first, Cowboys fans were wililng to look past the fact that he celebrated on their star. And I'm amazed Ravens fans are willing to look past the fact that he threw their team under the bus when the 49ers tried to trade him there.

If the Ravens are interested in someone like TO, I wonder if they don't take a long look at Antonio Bryant.

 It would be a much better move in my opinion. If Antonio is healthy he is a much better WR than TO at this point in their careers and you don't have to worry about the media circus.

 Flacco throws a decent deep ball/ Just no one catches it. Having flyered Demetrius Williams and Mark Clayton for too many painful seasons I would eat TO up in the third round and call it a steal as he could easily post top 5 numbers. With their power running game TO would eat up the play action game in that offense (as well as improve their WR blocking).

Remember TO disgrace the Star in Big D before a handful of all pro seasons wearing one. Winning cures all ills, and this team is ready to win now. Especially if they resign Mason as the "possession" receiver this team could easily be in the Super Bowl next year.complete aside: Does anyone else really like the KIA commercials with the partying sock puppet and pals?

Most of us weren't. I hated every moment of the the Owens era in DAL. Even when they won and TO dominated a couple of those games, I felt dirty.BAL can and should use all the TO talk to their advantage. To get Boldin. But, don't take TO, as he would be just another 8-10 yard possession receiver type, having lost so much speed, that the Ravens simply don't need (not to mention, his hands have always been a liability). Go get Boldin.

FWIW, Harbaugh also said they were interested in Westbrook so maybe there should be a grain of salt taken here in that perhaps there isn't interest in terms of contract talks but maybe Harbaugh likes to cast a wide net and make sure all door are wide open.

My recollection is that an in his prime Owens was capable of making a playoff team a playoff team, and then he blew them up. In the aftermath teams had to recover from his tenure with them and fans could not ever truly get that clean feeling back no matter how often they showered.

He is no longer in his prime.

If they do sign him the Ravens had better make sure there are no buses around their facility or Flacco will surely get tossed under there.

T.O. is waaaay past his prime and is a mediocre WR, at best. IMO, the Ravens would be making a big mistake picking this guy up and the baggage that follows.
