Hardest Draft Spot in the 1st round (1 Viewer)

After doing a lot of thinking, i figured i would bring it to the boards to see what kind of answer i get with this topic....

In a startup dynasty draft, i'm pretty sure most of us would agree the order goes (in no order) LJ, LT2, SA, and Portis 1-4 So my problem is...who would be the next considered guy at 5?

I know scoring systems would play a factor, so lets say its WCOFF style scoring, who would be the next guy to go off the boards. I would guess if everyone put in their opinion we would noticed there is no clear number 5.. i mean there are very good players of course...

Edge

SJax

Lamont Jordan

Caddy

Ronnie Brown

Reggie Bush

Tiki Barber

ect. ect. ect.

To me, its makes whoever picks 5th a tough spot in a dynasty league because you have the first choice of the "rest" and whoever goes after simply just crosses off a name and goes to the next guy on the list.

So i turn to the Shark Pool, who does everyone like at the #5 spot in a startup dynasty league with WCOFF scoring, i would like to see the answers we get as i think there would be no clear cut name over the rest once you get through the "big 4".

Several of those names don't seem to fit that high in a dynasty format. Of those listed, I would prefer Caddy or Ronnie Brown in a dynasty format. They could put up numbers similar to the others, and have more long term upside then players like Edge and Barber, who may not have many seasons left.

Or you could take the plunge with Bush knowing he's unlikely to be prime-time for another year or so.

:goodposting: Brown or Caddy will produce for years, including this year. Bush may not produce like a first rounder this year, but I think he will for years to come.

I'd probably take Bush just so no one else gets him. ;)

Ok i see where you going with this....but say your on the clock now at 5......both Ronnie and Caddy are there.....who do you take???

and also i'm not sure i would go either those two at 5.....just my opinion, i would like to hear more opinions on this though, as i'm interested to hear the replys...

Startup dynasty, #5 I'm probably looking at Peyton Manning. While the RBs are talented, and we all know how valuable RBs are, I'd rather lock in the elite QB at this slot in a dynasty. He'll be going strong long after most RBs are on the decline. I've personally never been in the position to do this, but if I were, I would.

I'll go after young talented RBs later, but with my 1st pick I want a player I'm almost certain to be able to count on for a long time.

If you're asking this because you are already involved in a Draft, and have the 5th pick, and are faced with this decision, that's one thing.

If, however, you haven't started drafting yet, or are just being hypothetical, I would STRONGLY suggest reconsidering holding a 'Startup Draft', and convincing yourself and your Leaguemates to allocate your initial Dynasty Rosters by means of an auction...

...you can search the Forum for threads with more discussion on this topic, but to hit upon the key points:

Dynasty Leagues are started with the idea in mind that they will be in existance for a long, long time...

Every owner has a different 'blueprint' on how he'd ideally construct his franchise 'from the ground up'...

Starting your Dynasty League with an auction draft virtually ensures that EVERY Owner will have a chance at EVERY player, as long as he's willing to spend the money to acquire him.

It leaves every owner free to plan, as he chooses, to run his own franchise based on the foundation he builds in Year One. Win now? Invest in the future? It is much, much more fun, and rewarding to build a Dynasty Team, and League as a whole, in this fashion...

Again, if you're already drafting, this may be too late. If you haven't started yet, it may be just in time...

...an auction draft is the most equitable way to distribute players in a brand new Dynasty League. Give it some consideration. You won't be sorry.

Good points you make....but this is just a general question i have, but me and my friends were discussing this topic and none of us could give a clear cut number 5 pick.... so i figured i would take it to the board to see the opinions i got here and already i have heard votes forBush

Caddy

Ronnie

SJax

Manning

which shows me, that the #5 spot in will have a tough choice to make, because there is no clear cut guy who goes after the top 4

keep the opinions coming guys!

:goodposting: I agree with this guy.
