Falcons' Douglas suffers leg injury

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons are awaiting a medical report on Harry Douglas after the wide receiver left Wednesday's practice with an apparent leg injury.

Douglas has received more work with the first-team offense in training camp while top receiver Roddy White is holding out for a new contract.

After catching a pass, Douglas fell and grabbed his left leg. He tried to stand with help from teammate Michael Jenkins before again falling to the ground.

Trainer Ron Medlin was summoned, and general manager Thomas Dimitroff also walked up to Douglas, who was driven off the field on a cart.

Douglas, a 2008 third-round pick from Louisville, had 23 catches for 320 yards in his rookie season

Sure sounds like ACL - grabbing leg, can't put weight on it immediately, not necessarily touched or hit. Speculation on my part for sure, but we'll know soon enough.

I do agree that this helps Roddy get paid, although I doubt he's "happy" about it.

:goodposting: ESPN still has nothing on this. How many times this preseason will FBG beat ESPN to the punch on NFL news?

Roddy White = Hello :(
Roddy can be seen doing :pickle:
Dougless has no impact on White whether he's on the field or picking his nose. He's a non-factor. If anything, White needs a capable WR on the other side to take pressure off so they don't double and triple team him.
Thats cute, however Roddy White lives in the pay me world.
If Douglas really hurt, then it means that the Falcons are that much more in need of a WR and this helps Roddy get back on the filed quicker if management sees this as potentially being a hole. That is what they are saying above.

:lmao: that my post had to be explained...

The bottom line for the Falcons is that they will not make the playoffs without White. They might with White. That is why he will get paid. Harry Douglas getting hurt only makes it tougher to make the playoffs even with White.

Only further cements Michael jenkins as the WR2 in this offense. White will be dopuble covered(still catch 80+ balls), Gonzo will have to have a DB assigned to him, no LB can cover him, God help them if they ever decide to line up Norwood in the slot with Turner int he backfield...now who is going to cover Michael Jenkins exactly? Guy will be open on every play. I easily see 50-60 balls, 600-800 yards, and 5-7 TD.

Jenkins average went up with Ryan under center by about 3-4 yds per catch last season. He racked 50/777/3 TDs...no reason he can't improve on some of that.

The only update I've seen says Douglas left the Falcons' practice facility on crutches.
That's not good, but were we really banking on Douglas for anything this year? I'm not denying the impact of the injury but if anything it only makes it better for those ahead of him IMHO.
I wasn't expecting big things from him this season, but in my dynasty league that includes return yardage I took a flier on him. I thought with White sitting out he might develop a nice rapport with Ryan.

That sucks for Douglas but Tony G. should benefit from this.
How did you end up with such a stacked roster (especially at WR) in a 14 team dynasty league? Did you swing some big trades?
Among other moves, dumped Marvin Harrison for future 1st rounder. Jerry Porter in 2005 for 2007 1st rounder, right after his 9 TD 2004 season (Calvin), Drew Brees for future 2nd rounder (Marshall). Took it on the chin for 2 years as I rebuilt and made great picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds.

It may just help White get paid quicker as opposed to more $$$. The key with the Douglas injury, he knows the system, anyone they bring in will have to learn on the fly. Yes, Douglas as a talent is replaceable, but not his "experience"...which I use that term loosely as it pertains more to him knowing the system more so than his league experience.

Matt Jones to the white courtesy phone please. Atlanta is calling.
That's actually not a bad idea...
My first thought was actually Marvin Harrison...
Those in NFL circles who should know are saying Harrison is done. Also, the possible issues surrounding the recent shootings make him more trouble than he'd be worth. He's 37 in a couple weeks and struggled his last year, even with Manning throwing to him. Best to take him off your radar.

From A Schefter (via Twitter):

Bad news, Atlanta. Players tell me Falcons WR Harry Douglas has a torn ACL and is out for the year. Confirmed. Paging Roddy White.

I'll bet Atlanta is regretting letting Laurent Robinson go for what was essentially pocket change.
That was one of the worst moves of the offseason (by any team), IMO. It's not like the Falcons couldn't have used Robinson. Maybe something was amiss somewhere (with Robinson), because I believe he's a better prospect than Douglas. Might be something we aren't privy to.Anyway, Atlanta's WRs behind White are really weak now. It's got to hurt their offense. It may possibly help Gonzo's numbers, but I can't shake the feeling the Falcons will take a step back this season (Ryan & Turner included).

It's a shame for Douglas and the Falcons, because I seriously believed he was a nice little component that could have made the Falcons offense really dangerous as the slot guy. He had the quickness and ability to get the job done over the middle to be a No. 2 WR in some pro offenses. Michael Jenkins is a guy that I believe plays well when the pressure isn't on him to be more than a supporting player. If the White situation could have been resolved earlier, Douglas might have given Jenkins a run for his money because he's a more consistent catcher of the football. Especially with the way Douglas was working in the film room to become a top-flight student of the game. He just screamed "security blanket" for Matt Ryan when he was drafted and I thought there were times it appeared that way last year - there was some kind of rapport on a small level with both rookies.

Now, I'll be suspicious of him being the No. 3 WR in Atlanta in 2010. If he is, I still think he'll be a year behind the development he was on his way to achieving.

Tough break for the Falcons and Douglas. But with White (he'll show up eventually), Jenkins, and Gonzalez...the Falcons ought to be able to replace his production although the ways they can hurt defenses will decrease.

 Really liked Douglas this year, esp in PPR. I think he was pretty undervalued here. Damn.

You'd go out and pay Marvin instead of signing a young Matt Jones coming off of a breakout year?
Hadn't really thought past the short list in my head of available receivers, and wouldn't expect, at this point, that Marvin's asking price would be much more than vet min.

Matt Jones would be a really bad replacement for Douglas. Totally different skill set.

Maybe they can get Stokley for a late pick.

Not sure the Falcons would take on a guy with Matt Jones', uh, history given the recent developments with their former high profile QB and their newfound commitment to "high character" players. While I wouldn't mind one bit Jones being a Falcon, I think it unlikely Arthur Blank will pull the trigger on this.
