You are not the only one.. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/2016/09/14/verizon-customers-complain-about-sudden-spike-in-data-charges/

** I have Verizon with 3 phones including one with a 16 yr old... Have not seen any data usage spikes.

ETA: Took a look at my bills.. Last 6 months of usage: March: 3.2 GB, April: 5.3 GB, May: 1.7 GB, June: 5.2 GB, July: 4.4 GB, Aug: 5.6 GB... So far this month with 6 days left to go: 9.25 GB..

You're not alone, lots of people have seen that recently. Saw something on one of the gawker sites about it.

I hate calling them its such a hassle but I'm going to have to over this. its only $30 but as a college student $30 goes a long way.

Look at your data usage.  Mine is showing that I used some very questionable data... Such as this one..

I wasn't even awake when I somehow used 202 MB of data while connected to my wifi...

Logged into Verizon's website.. Under "My Usage".. Click on your line (if you have multiple).. Scoll down and you will see "Data Utilization" where it will break down what categories you are using.. Scroll down further for dates, times and details.

Actually noticing quite a bit of uptick in data usage when asleep.  I know my phone is connected to my wifi during that time.  I'm an IT guy, have a kick ### home network and sleep one room away from my router.

Also noticing something using a larger than normal amount of data at about 2 PM on both my line and my wife's line pretty much every day.

Sure smells fishy to me..

This is exactly what i am saying. I literally sleep in the same room as my router so i don't understand the increase

Might have the wifi assist on.

It automatically is activated when you do the latest update.
Have an Android. Samsung S7.  The equivilent of this in the android world is "Smart Network Switch" in Advanced settings of WIFI.  Automatically connects to the mobile network if your WIFI becomes "unstable".  I have this disabled.
