Has this been the most uneventful and boring preseason ever? (1 Viewer)

As the preseason comes to a close my thoughts are that this has been the most boring, uneventful preseasons I can remember.  Is it just me?  I've been doing this a long time and maybe it's just me getting old but there just doesn't seem to be a lot of buzz or excitement about many players.  Teams have been running vanilla offenses forever in the preseason but at least they played their players in the games and you had week 3 to look forward to.  Now in an effort to keep their players healthy teams are just sitting their starters the majority of the preseason.  I was anxious to see Anthony Miller in the week 3 game and the Bears held out the entire offense...and they weren't alone.

I was also looking forward to this "legendary" crop of RBs this year and overall I really can't be more disappointed.  Barkley had one run and was shutdown, Jones?  Penny?  Michel?  Guice?  Freeman and Johnson played well but besides them it's largely been a huge yawn.  Overall, I think the rookie WR's and QB's have been much more exciting and interesting than the RBs.

I guess one good thing is that there will likely be more opportunity due to uncertainty this year since many situations aren't as cut, dried and settled in the preseason.

As a skins fan, preseason means one thing to me, hoping players don't get hurt. It worked out about as well as it usually does, losing the most hyped rookie on the team in game 1.

The NFL has got to fix their preseason problem. Not only does no one want to watch (much less attend) games featuring future gym teachers and fitness center owners, but holding entire first teams out of game action all August has effectively made September into extended preseason.

A hundred million NFL fans spend 7 months anxiously awaiting the return of meaningful NFL action, and in return they get three weeks of offenses that look like they've never been on a field together, secondaries pointing fingers at each other as the WR splits the seam for a 60-yard TD, and penalty flags. So. Many. Penalty. Flags.

I don't have an easy answer, but what they're doing now sure ain't working.

Many people are going to be. This was a very over-rated class in dynasty drafts. The rich got richer this year as the lower 1st round snagged some amazing WR talent. This draft class, IMO, is going to be more known for the WR class than RBs

It seems over the past few years teams have been de-emphasizing the preseason games but this year it seemed much more dramatic.  I would expect this trend to continue/increase going forward unfortunately.  I used to love watching week 3, watching to over reaction to a long TD or good RB stat line and this year was like

in the short term it's certainly looking like that....I'd throw QBs in there too as there seems to potentially be some good QBs to emerge from this draft....

We only need 2 weeks of preseason.  One week for starters.  One week to determine the 53 man roster.  Essentially, the starters would only play 1/2 of a game which should allow sufficient time to evaluate the players on the bubble.  Maybe allow 5 more roster spots for the first 2 weeks of the season or something since it is tough to evaluate players in 2 weeks of games too.

I think it's kind of circular why it's been quiet/boring. There fortunately have been few key injuries in pre-season, but one of the reasons that there have been few injuries is that most teams are trying to prevent them by limiting the action of stars or surefire starters in the pre-season games (particularly, as mentioned, the previous dress rehearsal of week 3).
