Has Vick been blackballed? (1 Viewer)

Sure looking that way. Teams are quick to report they have no interest in him. i think that's unfair, and for the record I'm a dog lover :goodposting:

Isn't he still under contract with the Falcons making any other team that declares interest guilty of collusion?

He's not owed a spot on any NFL roster. If you factor in the fact that he'd be potentially a serious disruption and source of consternation to the fan base, you can understand why no owner would want any part of him.

And, oh by the way, he was not a very good QB, in the first place. Easy/quick decision.

Mike Vick is not good enough of a reward for the amount of fans that will be turned off by hiring him and quit supporting a franchise. I am a 49er fan and would not root for them from the day Vick was hired until the day he left.

I'm not so sure ATL can f--k his life up at this point any more than it already is. I'm not in the know, but I would be surprised if they had any hold on him at all right now.

If he's still under contract, they sure as #### have a legal hold on his NFL career right now and until they cut him, trade him, or the contract expires.

Would you say the same thing if he had slapped a women? There is plenty of that going around the sports world and they still have fans. Kill a dog, so kill the person. Slap a women and go go go my player !!!

You seem to be trying to hijack your own thread and start (yet another  ) debate on proper moral outrage for various crimes. You asked why teams have expressed no interest in Vick, and I think you got your answer.

I'm pretty sure that ATL has no interest in having any part of Vick. So I expect him to be able to sign with anyone that will have him. The problem is, he may be blackballed and no one wants him.

Would you say the same thing if he had slapped a women? There is plenty of that going around the sports world and they still have fans. Kill a dog, so kill the person. Slap a women and go go go my player !!!
I'm not aware of any 49ers who slap women so I am not sure. I will say if a player grabbed a woman and smashed her head into the concrete until she was dead then the answer is I wouldn't support them without a doubt. The same goes for a player hanging, electrocuting or drowning a female. What does slapping a woman have to do with Mike Vick anyhow?

So, you think killing a dog is worse than slapping a women? If not, then why do athletes get a break from that, yet spend prison time for the dog killing? Also, why are they probably blackballed over it and wife beaters still find work?

Pretend you own a NFL team. You want Vick, however the Falcons control Vick's rights so why would you express interest and make the Falcons think they can trade the guy rather than just releasing him? Your point is moot anyway since he still isn't off suspension yet.

Vick wasn't in jail for killing dogs.

If Vick goes to a team, there will be protesters outside that stadium, ripping into management etc. It will be a pain in the butt. He's not that good a QB to take this kind of risk.

OK, he was convicted of dog fighting that resulted in dogs dying. Happy?Federal criminal prosecution

Speech made to U.S. Senate Following the Indictment of Michael Vick on federal Dog-fighting ChargesIn July 2007, Vick and three other men were charged by federal authorities with felony charges of operating an unlawful six-year long interstate dog fighting venture known as "Bad Newz Kennels" at Vick's 15-acre property in Surry County, Virginia. Vick was accused of financing the operation, directly participating in dog fights and executions, and personally handling thousands of dollars in related gambling activities. Federal prosecutors indicated they intended to proceed under the powerful provisions of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), a United States federal law that provides for extended criminal penalties and a civil cause of action for acts performed as part of an ongoing criminal organization.

Are you mis-using the term "black-balled"? I don't think there is any concious behind the scenes scheme to kepe Vick from playing again. I think most owners couldn't care less if he plays again...as long as it's not for them.

So, if anyone has "black-balled" Michael Vick...it's Michael Vick.

Who Dey? Vick would be "blackballed" for being a bad QB, unneeded by most teams and a disruption to all. It's simple really, if no team signs him if he's available it's because they analyzed the situation and found he wouldn't help the team. It's not a conspiracy.

I don't want to get into what I think is good, bad, worse. You asked a question, the answer is Mike Vick probably isn't good enough of a football player to be worth the risk to a team, that team will be protested and will lose some fans. Whether I think slapping a girl or killing a dog is worse isn't really relevant to the topic so I'll keep my opinions of what I think is worse to myself.

Being blackballed is a suttle thing IMO. I'm pretty sure if he served time for a less severe crime of public opinion he would already have a job lined up. I'm convinced of that.

 Maybe, if he hadn't committed a crime at all we wouldn't be having this discussion?

Pretend he's a UFA. The fact that he isn't doesn't seem to matter anyway.

List the teams that would be better off if they acquired/signed him.

figures. Why do i feel like you're singling me out? Why is it important to know if i find the death of a dog or punch of a female worse? I don't do either, HTH.

What do you think of Brandon Marshall? Do you think he should have a job in the NFL?

List the teams that would be better off if they acquired/signed him. - teams are afraid of the negagive impact caused by his conviction. It's a shame that wife beaters have less impact on society than dog killers.

List of convicted wife beaters on NFL rosters?ETA: teams being "afraid" of negative impact <> blackballed.

WTF? Just because you disagree with me is no reason for this kind of post. I simply brought up a subject that I knew would raise eyebrows and get some negative feedback. That's OK. That's what this forum is all about. Just because I feel that Vick is being blackballed doesn't make my join date relevant to the discussion.

Trust me, controversial threads are not always fishing expeditions.
True, they are not always fishing expeditions. Just the ones you create are fishing expeditions.
Why would you say that? I'm very sorry that I gave that impression. I'm pretty sure I could have started a let's hate Vick thread and everything would be just fine.

How did your thread turn into it being so important that you know if slapping a woman or killing a dog is worse? Sounds like you were fishing and I bit the shiny lurer. You got me!!! :pickle:
