What to expect today

That's right, it is already today. Generally I'm pretty wired after working a game day. About to get some sleep now. We'll be back at it in the morning. Hopefully we'll hear something on Matt Hasselbeck sooner rather than later. And then I'll be heading out to Kirkland in the early afternoon. Mike Holmgren's press conference is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. PDT. Players are expected to be available in the locker room starting at about 3 p.m. PDT. We'll have the usual reports as warranted.
And this latest post........
NFL: MRI confirms sprained knee

Permalink Posted by Mike Sando @ 09:18:17 am

NFL Network reports that Matt Hasselbeck's MRI confirms a Grade 2 sprain that could keep the QB out from 2-4 weeks. This is consistent with what I have heard about the injury but it is not something I have confirmed, and therefore I have not reported it on my own.

I guess thats good news - could have been a lot worse!

still 2-4 weeks at this stage of the season is tough to swallow - unless you have a very good backup there will be a lot of Hass owners deals this week

I hope it is only 2-4 weeks. Seattle is going to have a tough time without Alexander and Hassel.

Ugly. I really thought these guys were going to make it back to the Superbowl this year...they just can't buy a break.

So how confident are the Seattle homers that Wallace will be able to run this offense? I realize that if SA comes back next week or week 9, they'll lean hard on the running game until Hass. is healthy, but the Hawks have a real juicy schedule the next 5 weeks, with games @KC, Oak, Stl, @SF and GB. Is Wallace going to be a decent replacement for us Hasselbeck owners until then?

Not if your league penalizes for interceptions.

So how good is Wallace? Can he run this team? Is he worth picking up over someone like Jake Plummer or Steve McNair? Who is his daddy and what does he do?

Two nuggets about anyone thinking of starting Wallace, at leats for this week.

#1. Chiefs vs. NFC at Arrowhead:

The Chiefs own an NFL-best 20-4 record in interconference games at home dating back to the ‘95 season.

#2. Arrowhead Traditionally Tough For First-Time QBs:

Kansas City has also won 18 of its last 20 games against QBs in their first or second year as NFL starters who are making their initial appearance as a starter at Arrowhead.

Few play well at Arrowhead, even long established vets. But after that game their only tough game is StL at home. By then Hass and SA should be back, the team at no worse than 7-4 and Wallace with asome valuable experience under his belt.

(KFFL) ESPNews reports Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren has said QB Matt Hasselbeck (knee) will miss three weeks due to his injured medial collateral ligament in his right knee
This is kind of odd. Yahoo's saying the same thing, but the statement attributed to Holmgren says 2-4 weeks, not 3 games.

KIRKLAND, Wash. -

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck will miss two to four weeks with a strained ligament in his right knee, coach Mike Holmgren confirmed on Monday.

An MRI showed the Pro Bowl quarterback strained the medial collateral ligament while getting rolled into by a Minnesota pass rusher during Sunday's loss to the Vikings.

"There are three levels (of seriousness)," Holmgren said. "So he's right in the middle.

"He's on crutches for a few days ... I guess it's kind of good news for me. It could have been worse."

Seneca Wallace, a fourth-year veteran, will make his first NFL start on Sunday at Kansas City (3-3). The Seahawks (4-2) are already without league MVP Shaun Alexander, who remains out indefinitely with a broken foot.

On the opening drive of the second half Sunday, Vikings linebacker E.J. Henderson got past a block from fullback Mack Strong. Henderson then swung the left side of his torso into the lower half of Hasselbeck's right leg, which was planted after Hasselbeck had just thrown an incomplete pass.

Hasselbeck crumpled to the ground immediately, rolled over and then tried to get up. When he could not put weight on the leg to stand, he fell again and angrily pounded the turf while trainers rushed to his side.

Hasselbeck was taken the sideline with his weight on the shoulders of two trainers.

"I was falling to the ground and Mack Strong kind of pushed. I definitely didn't mean to do it," Henderson said. "It was definitely an accident, I hope he gets back soon."

When asked if he thought it was a clean hit on Hasselbeck, Holmgren said Monday, "I'm going to stay away from that ... I'm going to let someone else make that call."

Wallace was 14-for-25 for 134 yards passing and two interceptions playing almost the entire second half on Sunday, after spending last week's practices running the scout team. He also lost a fumble in his own end zone while Ben Leber sacked him. Kevin Williams covered the ball for Minnesota's final score.

"For the circumstances, I think I did all right," Wallace said after the game.
By the way, nice low expectations there. 2 ints, 1 fumble in the endzone recovered for a TD, and he thinks he did all right?

Nope, you also have to downgrade Jackson/Branch. But on the positive side up grade Alexander no way he sits out anymore, they ride him hard the next 4 weeks.
