Have Insurance or Own a Tank? (1 Viewer)

Now that we are at the 1/2 way point for the regular season, confidence is starting to build in our team. . .weather its good or bad confidence, we are starting to get an expectation of what our teams will do from here on out.

Some team have found that they are weak in some areas and stronger in others. Some teams have found themselves Strong across the board, or some others are just hoping to still get their first win. Some teams are over stacked at a position. . .only needing 2 starting RB and having 3 or 4 top 15. . . .needing 3 wr and having 5 top 20 rb. . . .but still lacking a top 10 QB. . . .

So what’s more important. . .having the depth and being able to shake off an injury, or dropping some of that weight and stacking a top tier starting squad?

I know some of this has to do with your individual squad, as well as position. . . .but it’s a tough call.

Having 3 #1 RB’s (2nd tier) is really nice to have as depth. . . .but trading one of those RB’s to upgrade from Alex Smith/ David Carr to a C. Palmer/M. Bulger it a tempting move, but your only increasing your QB score by a marginal score since QB score within a close margin after Peyton & Donovan

It could be a move to grab Holt? But what if you already have a #1 and 2 solid #2’s? Essentially your only increasing from a #2 to a #1, but you just gave up a #1 RB for a player that will never see your bench if you are to win the league.

Trade Dominator looks at the raw data and gives you a value based on an injury-less season. . . .I know you can’t predict injury, but isn’t that why we all own car insurance? But what if we could buy a tank? Sure it could still break down, but think of the teams you could blow through if it doesn’t.

So I that’s my thoughts. . . .not much for answers. . .but it’s a conundrum that I have been wrestling with for the past 2 weeks. . .knowing that the trade deadlines are approaching.

Unless it's a really compelling scenario...I generally don't use RB (especially) or WR depth to try to upgrade other positions. If you can package a RB/WR to upgrade a RB...I usually like that move.

On a side note....some formats allow free agent activity through the playoffs....some don't.

Obviously, I'd be less worried about dumping depth in those formats where you can still dip into the FA pool in an emergency.

I could have sworn this thread would be about driving in So Cal.

I have often contemplated going the tank route.

Add on to your side note: fantasy playoffs always involve teams that have already clinched home field advantage and others that have been long out of the race and so you have two scenarios of teams that don't have any reason to play their studs. Playoff teams want to rest the studs and crappy teams with studs that have nagging injuries or young potential studs want to see what the young kids have. In both of these situations you are better to have consolidated your talent and have a thin bench and just pick up the free agent du jour. You'd be surprised at how well these young free agents perform in meaningless games at the end of the season while auditioning for a job for the next season. Last season Vernand Morency went off in Week 17 for 83 yrds rushing, 4 receptions for 46 yrds and a TD. Thanks Vernand, I owe you big time.

Our WW is open all season long. . .provided that once your out of the hunt, your transactions are watched much closer than other teams still in it. . .just to keep people from dumping. . .but if its a valid pick up thats fine.

It's just a tough call. . . .And granted this has a personal bias to it. . .but its a good example. . .if you have 2 stud RB and a good #2 QB, is it worth giving up your 3rd RB for a C Dillion, and but upgrade your QB?

This would make the starting line up very solid, but if a RB was to go out for the season can the upgrade at QB make up for the loss you took at RB?

I think that FF is about 50/50 luck and skill. . . .obviously your drafting & pickups mean a ton, but you cant avoid the injuries on the luck side. . . .So that's what makes this tough. . . .Am I lucky enough to finish the season with out any major injuries?

Here's an interesting thought. . .are players more likely to be injured before or after the 1/2 way point?

I know it would make sence that it would be the second 1/2 of the season, but with out doing the research, it seems to me that most of the big losses over the last few season have been in the 1st half. . . .including this year. . .IE - SA, Hass, Green, Portis, Fitz. . . .but then again I think if I remember Pepper & Palmer were closer to the end of last season?

I like the insurance route. Injuries will happen to a couple key players on your team sooner or later. Week 7 seemed to have a high amount of injured players that effected plenty of teams. Some will come back in a few weeks or may miss a game and many are playing injured. One guy in my league has had T.Green, M. Hasselbeck, hurt, and now has Huard and he is banged up and may not play tomorrow.

:goodposting: Not that you care about my team but for example:Last year I had Edge and Westbrook, not much depth- my lack of RB depth cost me a shot at the title when Westy got hurt and Edge sat. I had to settle for 3rd place. This year I traded some of my RB depth to shore up my WR corps and I might regret that, but now I've got decent depth at all positions :football:
