I had a draft last weekend and things are going pretty normally through the first 8 or 9 rounds, then a guy tries to draft his 4th running back (Parker, Maroney, Selvin Young, Chris Perry) and the regulars of the league go nuts telling him that he can't have 4 running backs.

Turns out you are allowed to fill your starters at each position, then you MUST have one and ONLY ONE backup at each position.

This means that instead of sleepers in rounds 12-15 we are all stuck drafting a backup TE, backup D, and 2 kickers.

I proclaim simply "that's dumb" - and I'm met with other members of the league saying "that's totally normal dude, it's how all fantasy football leagues are." Along with some BS that it creates "sooo much more strategy doing it this way."

I've been in plenty of fantasy football leagues in my time and have never heard of anything like it - so my question to all you FF connaisseurs is; have you guys ever heard of anything like that?

My second team has limit of 2/4/6/2/2 and start half of that.

i've seen position limits to keep people from hoarding, but nothing that restrictive. so, if you start 3wrs, you can only draft 4?? that could really be a mess with bye weeks.

Yeah, someone else who didn't know drafted Driver and Jennings, so they will have to trade or drop one of them by week 8. Also my friend drafted 3 WRs with a bye in week 4 so he's basically giving up a free loss.

My main league has been together since 1995 and we have roster limits by position. I think there are a probably a lot of nonstandard things out there in live leagues that have been together for a long time.

Still, I have to agree with everyone that has asked how you would not know up front. And how someone could be forced to drop players they drafted. That part is awful strange. We make sure everyone knows about the roster limits well in front of the draft (plus we have almost no turnover).

Here in Texas there's a saying describing something like that...the first part of it is "Bull"...and the second part is "S***".

It does show the max positions if I dig deep enough into the league's website (espn league,) so I can't complain too much - but it was definitely not described to me at the beginning of the draft. And I would think a rule as unconventional as that would be explicitly described in detail.Another weird thing about it is that there are no handcuff picks possible. Off the top of my head that leaves guys like Ricky Williams, DeAngelo Williams, Chester Taylor, Tim Hightower, etc available RIGHT NOW on the waiver wire. 12 team league, means only 36 RBs are drafted.

Another weird thing about it is that there are no handcuff picks possible. Off the top of my head that leaves guys like Ricky Williams, DeAngelo Williams, Chester Taylor, Tim Hightower, etc available RIGHT NOW on the waiver wire. 12 team league, means only 36 RBs are drafted.

I'm actually in a league like this (it's been around since 1991 and the rules have barely changed since then). AP was my keeper, I got MJD in the first round, and took Chester Taylor in the final round. I'd rather roll the dice with one week when two of my three RB's are on bye, than roll the dice with the entire season by not getting insurance for Peterson.

maybe the commish thought the owner would know the rules of the league they joined.
