Do you know this guy?

I just made a trade in my league today. Small one to help with bye weeks and strengthen my WRs. I am co-commish and it was with the guy I run the league with so we always email the league to let them know what we are doing so they can see it's on the up and up.

So this dude in my league has to email me and let me know he dislikes it - 'I don't understand why you did this trade - it looks like you gave up two good players for three mediocre ones'. He says he doesn't really care about it and isn't protesting'.

I emailed him back - talked about why I liked the players I got, compared them to the ones I gave and even pointed out where I thought he might see a problem but just told him I had looked everything over thoroughly and researched it and I knew there was some risk but I was willing to take the chance.

I figure, that's it. Maybe a 'oh thanks well I wouldn't have done it, but I guess I see.....' But I mean he says he doesn';t really care so...

Yeah, he emails me back making a comparison of two running backs - the one I traded away and a top end stud unrelated and waaaaaay off base frankly essentially saying I was trading a guy like the stud - and telling me how he was glad I had talked myself into it. He also complained that my explanation was too long.

Am I nuts to be pretty pissed off? Do you often email fellow owners asking why they did something, then call them stupid? Trash talk is one thing, but this seemed pretty out of line.

I asked him why he was emailing if he couldn't care less and he got ll defensive.

Lots of people don't understand why trades are done. They think that every player has an exact value on the market to every team, when that's obviously not the case.

I don't think you should let it bother you too much though. He's obviously not good at Fantasy Football by your own assumption, so be happy to have him in the league, and good luck ever completing a trade with him.

That's why you always have a participant NOT in the league rule on trades (get a 3rd party service or individual that's not in the league).

It's great you explain to owners why you did the trade, as unnecessary as it is (and I'm sure it goes in one ear and out the other). Some people will have a problem with any deal.

What was the exact trade??
I didn't want to get into that b/c 1) I didn't want it to accidentally turn into a WDIS or look like one and 2) I didn't think it was relevant - I mean, it was the tone and absolute gaul that he showed by disagreeing the way he did not so much anything to do with the fact he did. I didn't want my rant to be about the merits in to the trade nor get my own thread off topic by ending up having the discussion being whether the guy was right or I was.

He's an idiot, thanx to the too long line, and anything else he says isn't worth the time to read. My advice is to ignore anything further from him not directly related to the smooth running of the league. He's not worth the effort of being annyed.

Your first mistake was bothering to explain the trade. It's no one else business why I make the trades I make. It's not my job to educate the other owners and explain how I evaluate players. If he said he didn't like it, but wasn't overly concerned, move on. When you give a long detailed explanation it often comes across as protesting too much, if you know what I mean.

No. The mistake wasn't his.

Here's what I would have said to him...........

"Thanks for you concern about my team and input. I made the trade because I wanted to."

Did you ever consider that HE may have wanted one of the players you traded away? Perhaps HE felt slighted that you didn't approach HIM about a trade. But really, the "it doesn't matter to me" is just passive aggressive playground politics. Move on... nothing more to discuss... :2cents: And yes... I know that guy...

Exactly. And you post about it on a forum, because you want to feel better? I just don't get it, who flippin cares.

FWIW O have.Luckily venting does wonders. Oddly enough this morning he emailed me that he overreacted and as someone predicted earlier - he wanted to trade for one of my guys.I refrained from pointing out that he can't be upset over a trade he wanted and never asked for and took your advice, responded politely and moved on.BTW mulder & junky - it was just a venting thread - i'll see what i can do to get you your five minutes back.

And you both feel the need to post about a post you think is a wastte of time.Irony.

Block, I know this guy and 90% of the time he's just a blowhard. Sounds like you got over it - I would be a little less sensitive and just write him off next time. I get you were just making sure the guy knew the trade was above board and maybe he shouldn't have asked for an explanation if he didn't want to really get one - but it was nothing to get too bent out of shape on.

But hey, vent away - maybe next time to someone elsewhere before you hit reply. Stress is a killer and this is just a game. No need to allow it to upset you beyond being angry Tomlinson is still hurt. Dammit.

when someone says "your response was too long" I generally sigh and stop debating them, as it's only gonna gibve both of us headaches.

What did Dr. Phil think about your trade?

Personally I don't like this decision to start this thread or the trade you made. You clearly gave up too much and basically gave away your only good players.

I don't really care and I'm not protesting.

Well why didn't you tell us he was French in the first place?Your anger is much more justified now.

No, this is why you play in a league where everyone playing can be trusted to act in their team's own best interest and not collude, so *nobody* has to rule on trades.I hate commissioner approval, and I hate leaguewide votes even more. Nothing good ever comes from these.

Lots of people don't understand why trades are done. They think that every player has an exact value on the market to every team, when that's obviously not the case.
This is something that's not talked about enough around here, and in fact most conversations about trades seem to largely assume the opposite. The concept of "value" in fantasy football is very subjective, and very reliant upon each team's circumstances. A stud player on a last place team is worth less to that owner than a stud player on a first place team. Why? The extra 10-20 points that that stud player gets for the first place owner some weeks may be the critical difference in close games that get him important wins; the extra 10-20 points that the stud player gets for the last place owner will, as often as not, merely reduce the losing margin for his team. Anyway, guys like the one described in the OP are best ignored unless they're making formal collusion charges, or unless they're talking trash in which case you should fire back.

You sent two more e-mails than I would have.

if I'd sent one, it would likely have said something to the effect of "Team Owner B and I have decided we're going to attempt to game the system by making totally lopsided trades, but figured we'd throw this one out there first to see if we had any whiny #####es in the league. Thanks for your input."
