HBO - Song of Ice&Fire Series -Varsity Thread - no TV only whiners (1 Viewer)

There are a number of

that show more footage of Season 2. Pretty good stuff in there. Spoilers about Season 1 stuff, but we are getting to the point where that is old news. A few hints about season 2 stuff so if you want to go in blind, avoid, but for those that have read the books it is a cool way to see more about the characters.

This is a huge thread so I haven't gone through it, but I’m wondering how the show seasons map out to the books. My friends are trying to get me in for season 2, but I wanted to read the books first. How far in the books do I need to get to "get ahead" of the series? I just started the first book last night, and I guess I have a week and a half before the season two premier.

You will need to read the first book and probably the prologue + 2-3 chapters of the second book.

Looks like i have some serious reading to do in the next week. Thanks for the info!

With S2 approaching, I was re-watching some of S1...it never gets old. What are people's thoughts on the best of S1?

Best death?

Best scene?

Best character not named Tyrion Lannister?

Executive producers D.B. Weiss and David Benioff discuss their overall approach to this season: Weiss: I think fans of the show can expect to be surprised by some of what happens. We're taking approaches that might surprise [fans of the books] as well. A lot of the characters that George [R.R. Martin] created are so rich and so wonderful that you often find yourself wondering what would happen if this one met that one…So there will definitely be some nice surprises [and] excitement for both longtime readers and newcomers to the material. Benioff: We're not looking at our series as a book-by-book adaptation so much as an adaptation of George's entire saga. In other words, in our minds season two is not A Clash of Kings [the series' second book]. It is the second season of our adaptation of [the entire saga], A Song of Ice and Fire.

There are still people who haven't read the books. Maybe they should avoid the thread, but people were praising the use of spoiler tags just a few posts ago. :lmao:

About to watch for the first time. Gonna see what all the hype's about.
Watched about 40 minutes before I laptop died and I was too lazy to go downstairs for the power cord since I was in bed already. Loving it so far. The opening was SICK.
Ok. 5 Episodes in. This Joffrey kid is a real #####. Tyrion is a phenomenal character. Can see why he won the Golden Globe. The Khalisi is fn HOT, pregnant and all. Oh yeah, a knight just killed a horse cause he lost, LOL. Can't wait to finish up before Sunday.

Interesting. I don't see them changing the story overall or characters themselves, so it should be cool.

I haven't read the books, but the first season is nearly a full year old now. I think it is fair game to talk about. Anyone that enters the 45th page of a TV show thread that aired a year ago, should expect open discussion of the first season. The praising of spoilers (of which I was one) has to do with people that have read the books beyond book 1, but have not revealed anything the show hasn't yet aired.

I saw the 1/2 hour summary/preview thingy. She's interviewed in it a few times. Is it just me or is she even hotter as a brunette?
Much hotter as a brunette IMO
:goodposting: Agreed 100%.
big fan
thats not her
I didn't think so either, but it is here with the rest of her photos:http://www.thesnipenews.com/galleries/actresses-models/emilia-clarke/

She's got her own site too. Lots of excellent pics there - not all safe for work (the topless/nude ones from AGOT).

Eddard Stark. Beheaded. HOLY MOTHER ####### ####.
:hot:  SPOLER ALERT!!!! :hot:C'mon man...really? Can't wrap that in a nice little spoiler?
Just yanking your chain, although that is a pretty major spoiler, if someone's read this far they deserve to be spoiled.

Quick thoughts from someone who just inhaled ten episodes in about 3 days.

1. Joffrey has quickly ascended to the top of my most hated characters on TV list. What an utter piece of ####. The actor plays him brilliantly.

2. Tyrion is such a great presence on the show.

3. The Khaleesi now has dragons? ####'s about to hit the fan.

4. Jon Snow is a badass and I hope he gets his hands on Joffrey.

5. This show has the best boobs ever put on the small screen.

6. Someone needs to slap some sense into Sansa.

7. I have the books on my ereader. Which one does the end of season 1 lead into??

8. The writing on this show opens my eyes to the horrible writing on most other shows.

I hate Cersei most of all. Like if I saw the actress IRL I'd be tempted to "honor her again."
agreed, but I'd honor Lena Headey with my donger.
Yeah, she's sexful, but this character/show is ruining her for me. Tangentially, the blonde isn't getting pulled off very convincingly on her.

I can't decide who I hate more. Joffrey or that kid that still sucks his mother's teat.

True. Was that a prosthetic or did they really have the little guy all up on his mom's nip? And the fact that he had the milk running down his face made me almost lose my lunch. Then again, when Joffrey seemed as if he was going to show Eddard mercy and then screams "BRING ME HIS HEAD!!" was the final straw. I want to this kid in the face as hard as I can.

Getting the books in the mail soon, and intend to read the first two before watching the 2nd season. I'd like to have about 4 shows DVR'd before I start watching. I was sick when I started watching last season, on the recommendation of my :nerd: brother. Watched the whole thing On Demand in two days.

Not sure if I can stand waiting a week between episodes. Don't expect I will cruise the thread until I catch up with everyone. See ya in 4 weeks!

The problem with the show is that they had to up the ages of the characters. In the books, IIRC, Jon and Robb are 14 at the start of the series, Sansa is 12ish, Arya 9ish, Bran 7ish, and Rickon is 4. I think they bumped up the age of Jon and Robb by 4-6 years and the others by 2-3 years.
