I believe Stannis is next in line after Robert by the traditions or laws or whatever.

Probably, but he'd have a hard time proving it. Ned dead, mother dead, Robert dead, Jon Arryn dead.Edit. Ned thought Stannis had claim even knowing about the bastards.

By Westeros law/tradition it would be Stannis. Daenerys' family has been deposed. Gendry, by law, wouldn't have much of a claim at all.

If you're a Targaryen supporter this is true. If a Baratheon supporter, it's Stannis. Given what we currently know from the show of course.Then again, legitimacy seems to really boil down to who can kick the most ###.

Stannis has the legit claim. Before the targaryans ruled, all the regions were seperate kingdoms.
The Targs came and conquered with their dragons and united the realm. Their house ruled for 100s of years and put down several rebellions. Robert's rebellion was successful in deposing that particular Targaryan family. Technically, however, Robert Baratheon's line also had Targaryan blood through his grandmother, so his claim was legitimized after the rebellion.

I wonder if they get right to it next week - I think they have to lay a little more ground work first. They might even be able to stretch it out to the end of the season.

I watched the episode again at lunch today, and noticed a couple little things I didn't notice the first time (because I was drunk and/or tired).
like, when Ser Rodrick(?) comes in to tell Bran that the other town is under attack, and Bran tells him to take the men to defend it, there's some creepy guy milling around in the shadows kind of listening in. I figure they wouldn't show that if it wasn't important. maybe a Greyjoy plant?
and also how bad*ss Ghost looks while standing on the hill watching the night watch guys set up camp in the snow. he looks huge!

Stannis. However, as has been pointed out multiple times by multiple characters, the person that can hold the throne is the the king. Legitimacy means nothing.

We haven't seen the last of Nymeria, especially with Arya's story line unfolding the way it is. Seems like Arya and Nymeria are both becoming badass killers, hopefully they team up down the road.

It can be a little convoluted, especially for non-book readers. But there are a ton of resources on the web that can help without spoiling anything. Check out EW.com's episode recaps (every ep recap is available and you can probably read all 15 or so in half an hour) - Hibberd does a great job of telling you what you're supposed to know at this point in whatever recap you're reading. HBO itself has some pretty neat, non-spoiler stuff too - who belongs to what house, who's on whose side, who's related to who, maps, etc... Both Westeros.org & towerofthehand.com have spoiler-free zones but be careful where you go on those sites.I don't think you need to know every piece of minutia to enjoy the show. When I first read the books, I gave up trying to keep everyone straight even with the appendix and just went along for the ride. Hell - after several rereads, I still can't keep all those damned Florents straight.

I can usually follow around 90% of it and then I usually read wikipedia or ask here about the 10% I couldnt follow.

I watched all of the episodes once and I found I was in the same boat, so I'm going back and watching from the beginning again to see if I can fill in some blanks. Plus, it just gives me another excuse to watch again!
