Good stuff
Bronn realizes its not in his best interests to defend Tyrion (either at trial or trial by combat). Tyrion more or less accepts this. I don't know if show Jaime will rush to defend him (and actually like Evilgrin said in the other thread...would make a very nice conflict of interests for Tywin)......but they'll have the Bronn/Tyrion conversation. Those two actors have too good a repoire to not have them together one final time.I will ask in here where it is less prickly:
shae - what turns her? was it solely tyrion yelling at her to go? did bronn sell him out too? did cercei just get to her before she sailed away?
don't remember this in the books.
Did he? He was outnumbered and I thought was letting the dogs out, and I figured the ironborn escaped.Leeroy Jenkins said:The whole Yara and theon thing just seemed so forced and out of place. Like Ramsay would just let them leave?
Pretty sure the number of people in the Dreadfort would outnumber an Ironborn raiding party. But that's probably more thought than this extraneous scene deserves.shuke said:Did he? I think there is a new leader in the race for the word that Brienne says at the end of the noose a little later...Nice to see hot pie again, like how they handled that
Knowing what we know, it's pretty funny to hear the TV guys' thoughts. No way a small role like Gregor kills Oberyn.Speculation in the non-book thread is good right now - very interesting. Leave it to good old GRR to concoct a story line where both combatants are killed.
Yea man, you show off those book reading skills. You know nothing, TV thread.
It would be much better if they showed Dany's hotpie, amirite?Mereen stuff yawn

I'm not laughing at them in any respect. I find it truly interesting to read the speculation and try to remember where I was at that point in the story. I think for most people reading the books, it wasn't at all unlikely that Clegane would kill Oberyn. For the show, they've made Oberyn a star of sorts in his short role this season, while Gregor has been a minor character throughout the tv series, much lower profile than he had in the books.Knowing what we know, it's pretty funny to hear the TV guys' thoughts. that's not me, it's you.:whoosh:Yea man, you show off those book reading skills. You know nothing, TV thread.
this part pissed me off when reading. Only a few other scenes created same kind of reaction. We don't know for sure that The Mountain will kill Oberyn on TV either. Probably, but not certainly, right?
Hope it goes down like in the novel, pretty bittersweet/tragic death for Obie: he knows The Mountain is poisoned, but gets taken out himself (pretty brutally) before he gets to enjoy his revenge.
He's still a zombie in the basement iirc.I recall Cercei asking her creepy maester to try to save/revive Gregor from the poison? Am I mixing up my stories or did that happen?
soon to be Cercei's champion...He's still a zombie in the basement iirc.I recall Cercei asking her creepy maester to try to save/revive Gregor from the poison? Am I mixing up my stories or did that happen?
With the way they're toying with the storylines from the book, I almost wouldn't be surprised of Oberyn lives. But one thing Game of Thrones does consistently is kill off characters we like, so I think Oberyn will eat it.We don't know for sure that The Mountain will kill Oberyn on TV either. thought he came off as slightly more dickish in the show, but still a great scene.I loved the Bronn and Tyrion scene last night. It was great in the books and they didn't mess with it much.
Isn't he up and walking around as a silent "new" member of the Kingsguard or some such?soon to be Cercei's champion...He's still a zombie in the basement iirc.I recall Cercei asking her creepy maester to try to save/revive Gregor from the poison? Am I mixing up my stories or did that happen?
has anyone lived in the show that died in the book so far? Oberyn will bite it im sureWith the way they're toying with the storylines from the book, I almost wouldn't be surprised of Oberyn lives. Plus, there is no such thing as happy ending in Game of Thrones.
Tell it to Tyrion, Oberyn, or Littlefinger. They might disagree with you on that. With the way they're toying with the storylines from the book, I almost wouldn't be surprised of Oberyn lives. I'll need to re-read ADWD, I don't remember that part.yepIsn't he up and walking around as a silent "new" member of the Kingsguard or some such?soon to be Cercei's champion...He's still a zombie in the basement iirc.I recall Cercei asking her creepy maester to try to save/revive Gregor from the poison? I don't think that Bronn will necessarily fall of the map - we need someone to take Ilyn Payne's spot when Jaime leaves King's Landing.JerseyToughGuys said:Lots of good characters are going to fall off the map in pretty short order:
Joffrey - RIP
The Hound
Bronn
Oberyn
Tywin
It should be interesting to see what the TV version can do with some of the others seemingly minor players. I think they did a great job of enhancing Oberyn.
Yeah, didn't get that scene or the guy biting the Hound.Kind of odd how they re-introduced Gregor last night - a shirtless knight, slaughtering random peasants outside King's Landing? I guess the director couldn't come up with a better way to show he's a nasty, huge dude?
Also, the stuff about Melisandre and Stannis' daughter seemed new - was that in the book?
I would have agreed, if they rewrote the lordship part.I don't think that Bronn will necessarily fall of the map - we need someone to take Ilyn Payne's spot when Jaime leaves King's Landing.JerseyToughGuys said:Lots of good characters are going to fall off the map in pretty short order:

That was just a quick way for him the get his death wound IMO. They just did it here instead of the fight at the Inn. While at the same time adding to the Arya bad ### personaYeah, didn't get that scene or the guy biting the Hound.
just horse beheading?re: the reintroduction of Gregor...
so much of the horror of The Mountain was explained to the reader via second-hand stories and tall tales of his brutal ways. I'm trying to recall if we ever get an up close and personal account of his terrible acts, and I'm drawing a blank on that one.
The Hound, but I don't think he's going to live a whole lot longer.bicycle_seat_sniffer said:has anyone lived in the show that died in the book so far? Also the atrocities he committed on that Village, Remember when Ned sent out Beric Dondarrion to go bring him to justice(then The Mountain "killed" Beric for the first time). Plus his association with The Tickler etc. and all the torture.yep, good call. Way back in season 1.just horse beheading?re: the reintroduction of Gregor...

were those firsthand scenes though, or did we find out about them through other characters?I don't remember seeing the mountain after the tourney, but we must have since he has been played by 3 different dudes now. Also the atrocities he committed on that Village, Remember when Ned sent out Beric Dondarrion to go bring him to justice(then The Mountain "killed" Beric for the first time).
