HC Jim Harbaugh, LAC (1 Viewer)

So Sunday will be the end of an almost golden era for SF.

I wish someone....anyone...would step up and make an offer to buy the team that the Yorks couldn't refuse. Theres no chance to return to glory until the York's are out of the picture.

So long, Jimbo...we hardly knew ya...thanks for at least making a few runs before you were run out of town.

As much as I detest him as a professional coach, I'd welcome him back to Michigan. It'd be a great test for him to restore a once proud program to former glory.
I don't know about Michigan fans, but for me, pride in a program starts with my feelings about the personal integrity of the people involved. If Cal were shelling out big money to a known ######## just because they think he can win some football games, I wouldn't be proud of that.
Cal is and has always been a #### program, not sure you have any base of knowledge to discuss this topic.
I'm not sure what you're getting at with "####". My point is that I want to be proud of the athletic program for the people in it and the way they relate to the real work of the institution, which is the students and the academics.
You clearly have missed the last 30 years when college football isn't about academics and became about money. We used to say "student athlete to the public" but behind closed doors we would laugh and say "athlete student"

I love threads where those who cannot stand with men in real life assert themselves, poorly. GB the internet where the infantile and effete can pretend to prowess.

Probably worse to assume that everyone is a bum that lives in their mother's basement. Some people had or continue to have careers in football.. this is after all a football website

Dave Feldman of CSN Bay Area reports Jim Harbaugh will be the next head coach at the University of Michigan.

Feldman reports Harbaugh will be introduced in Ann Arbor on Tuesday. A Michigan alum, Harbaugh wound up spending four seasons as the 49ers' head coach before a falling out with GM Trent Baalke, compiling a record of 43-19-1 entering Sunday's season finale against Arizona. Harbaugh was the head coach at Stanford in the prior four years and knows the college game. It's believed Baalke will now pursue a coach willing to accept less power. In-house candidates will be DC Vic Fangio and DL coach Jim Tomsula. Together, Harbaugh and Baalke turned around a 49ers organization that had previously missed the playoffs in eight straight years. Their divorce was known to be inevitable entering the 2014 season.

Michigan just got the best possible coach available in either pro or college! These types of breaks change a program. Baalke should be fired for not being able to make it work.

one of the sources said in Cole's report, which cited two members of the 49ers' coaching staff and an NFL source. "Jim has figured out that his style is best suited for the college game. His shtick works better with young guys who are gone after three or four years"

Sounds about right.

What this reporter doesn't realize that even an old school NFL HOFer in Singletary wore thin on the team. The team is soft. It's "football soft". Why? Because the organization is football soft. A coach like Bill Parcells would scare them. Mike Martz scared them. Hell, even Steve Mariucci scared them. Singletary scared them. Anybody who knows football scares them.

The irony here, is that any HC who coached under the Yorks seems to have their last job in the NFL as a HC, lol:

Mooch - coached his last game as an HC with the 49ers

Dennis Erickson - ditto

Mike Nolan - ditto

Mike Singletary - ditto

And if the rumors of Harbaugh going to Michigan come to fruition...

Maybe ditto if he moves on past Michigan.

The York era is like the Bizzaro Walsh/Eddie era when it comes to a head coaching tree. In fact, it's more toxic to coach there then it was under Eddie. The death curse of a head coaching career today is coaching a York brand 49er team. Hell, even old GM's are toxic. Failure can be contagious, and the Yorks have produced more failure than success.

They are the new Donald Sterlings. They care less about winning then they do getting the quick buck because they were cash poor to own an NFL team to begin with. Of course Harbaugh wore thin on them. He won.

ETA: how the hell is Jason Cole now with Reacher Report? He just joined the many amateurs who wrote for that craphole. Like the guy who said the 49ers are the greatest organization of all sports, while in a 12 step program.

For **** sake Nut, Webzone, now Bleacher Report? Have you tested for lead in the water in Tampa yet?

LOL, read this in the comment section of PFT:

  1. raiderej says: Dec 27, 2014 10:25 AM I’ll be glad when someone other than my team the Raiders hires this guy. I’m from the school that he is NOT a Raider since being “tainted” as a Forty-Whiner. Although one of his first NFL jobs was with the Raiders, he has since lost his way. My Raiders should keep our boy Tony Sparano and give him a 3-4 year contract. In the words of Bill Romanoski, “Tony Sparano has forgotten more about football than Jim Harbaugh has EVER known.”
Bill Romanowski - drafted in the third round by the 49ers in 1988.

I know Detroit's history isn't so great, but they're still an NFL team.

Ian Rap is down right horrible and throws anything at the wall to see if it sticks. He just reported on NFL Network that the Bears will go after Harbaugh if he gets fired, this after reports have confirmed Harbaugh to Michigan.

If he isnt hands down the worst "insider" on any network I dont know who is. Whenever he says something I have to double check or I take no weight in it, not good for an insider needing to be sourced checked.

So SF fans, which coach that you're going to hire is getting the niners to at least the divisional round next season? And that's a modest expectation compared to what Harbaugh's done.

I heard that harbaugh hasn't signed anything and Michigan leaked it's a done deal...

I heard it was Harbaughs friends and some of those in the SF organization. He is already taking assistants from reports. That stuff dont leak unless their is a big fire with that smoke.

LOL, oh yeah I forgot Mooch coached there. He was hired by Eddie though, as an OC. George Seifert resented that they hired Mooch to replace Marc "GONE" Trestman, saw it as a sign of they forcing him out, and retired. Thus, Mooch became HC, and did a great job there considering.

ETA: I dunno who picked Gio Carmazzi over Tom Brady over there in SF back in the day - Brady was literally in their backyard - but Mooch jokingly said had they did, he might be still coaching today, lol.

You know who else was 4-2 in the postseason?

Hitler.

(But seriously, Mark Sanchez.)
Yet Chip Kelley has him as starter for the Iggles, who could very well be in the post season.

Meanwhile, NYJ is 2-11...
pAnyone ask for an update on this?
Sure:

2013 - Iggles were 4th in points scored, 17th in points allowed according to PFR.

2014 - 3rd in points scored, 23rd in points allowed according to same.

;P

UCLA's Jim Mora, who has a relationship with 49ers acting owner Jed York, is also in the mix. Mora is 28-11 in three seasons at UCLA and was previously the head coach of both the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks, where he compiled a 31-33 record.
I think he is the front runner.

Lol, hey man don't take my word for it. It's just that he was on the short list in case they didn't land Harbaugh. The other IMO was Brian Billick. I'm pretty good at my York predictions, but that's like knowing when Moe is gonna slap Curly.

How many championships did he win at Stanford? None. How many at San Diego State? None. How many with the Colts? None. How many with the Bears? None. How many at Michigan? None.
He never coached at San Diego State and I'm not sure what his playing career has to do with his coaching ability.
:lmao: at San Diego State. Go back to mining water Sabertool, you're not good at the internet.
ok Dr. Dip####. You go ahead and bump this thread when Harbaugh wins that ring. :lmao:
You're the gift that just keeps on giving.
Here.

@Johnubacon: BREAKING NEWS: Straight from UM AD Jim Hackett. Harbaugh's salary will be roughly $5M a year, plus incentives, same basic contract as 49ers.

Same money, but he will be working for someone who will actually appreciate him. I'll be rooting for Michigan to win a title.

But he's leaving because of a break with ownership and management, and not because of his coaching style, right?

By the way I'm guessing all NFCW and NFC fans of other teams in general are glad to see him go, and I would think almost all 9er fans are universally disgusted. They should be.

Yes, but he could have stayed in the NFL if he wanted. I've heard several reports of SF players saying he treated them like college kids sometimes, so maybe there's something to it.

Pete Carroll coaches in a sort of college style too, and he's from the Bill Walsh tree.

Mike Singletary tried to treat them as men, and they hated him too.

Jim Tomsula tries to amalgamate both, and he's a candidate.

Jim Harbaugh helps I-94 crash victims in Ann Arbor

http://www.mlive.com/news/ann-arbor/index.ssf/2015/03/jim_harbaugh_helps_crash_victi.html

University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh stopped and assisted two patients after a rollover crash on I-94 Tuesday afternoon.

U-M Athletic Department spokesman Dave Ablauf said that according to a police report from the Michigan State Police Harbaugh and another staff member from the football program stopped to assist two passengers of a car that crashed at approximately 2:40 p.m.

Ann Arbor Fire Department Battalion Chief Robert Vogel said the car had been on I-94 westbound and flipped multiple times before ending up on the eastbound side of I-94 near State Street. A Michigan State Police release said the car, a 2003 Jeep Cherokee, hit the median before traveling up a snow embankment and landing on the eastbound side of the highway.

According the MSP release, the 53-year-old woman driving the car was wearing her seatbelt but was partially ejected from the vehicle. A 73-year-old woman was in the passenger seat and was also wearing her seatbelt. Both patients were transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital by Huron Valley Ambulance Service, spokeswoman Joyce Williams said.

Ablauf said Harbaugh and Jim Minick administered first aid to both individuals and kept them warm with coats until the emergency medical personnel arrived.

Culliver said it best. Three out four years in the NFC Championship. Maybe Boone should realize that the reason they got over the mountain was precisely because Harbaugh didn't let up. It may be annoying to the likes of Boone (who is probably content to settle into mediocrity) but I'd prefer it if the Niners were still pushing for success--not going with a players' coach.

SF is so screwed this season. All those elite players taking their balls and going home, following Harbaugh out the door. SF management has really screwed the team up.

Rotoworld:

NFL Media ranks Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh as the No. 7 head coach in the country.

Harbaugh holds a career 58-27 record in college. "The intense head coach of the Wolverines might be the most interesting man in college football in 2015 as he returns to his alma matter. Harbaugh has been a noted builder of programs," wrote College Football 24/7 writer Bryan Fischer. "He turned things around at San Diego and Stanford with an eye for talent and a quality blueprint. It will be interesting to see if he can do the same thing for Michigan after four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers." Harbaugh, working with a six-year, $48 million contract, should not be expected to work immediate miracles in Michigan. Playing in a fringe bowl game in his first season would be a worthwhile accomplishment with the talent on hand.

Rotoworld:

Michigan HC Jim Harbaugh "still hasn’t settled on a quarterback for the upcoming season and has plenty of questions on the o-line and in the backfield," notes the Sport Quotient.

Harbaugh inherits an offense which last year ranked 111th in the nation in scoring (20.9 points per game), 112th in passing (170.2 yards per game) and 115th in total offense (333 yards per game). "It’s not going to be easy to turn this offense around right away, but Harbaugh’s proven in the past he can mold signal callers and turn an offense into a juggernaut," observed SQ.
