Head-to-Head Roto (1 Viewer)

Going to play in a 12 team, head-to-head, typical 5x5 roto.

Is it annoying? I don't know details of waiver procedures yet, but I imagine folks chase the wire for 2 start pitchers each week in hopes of getting wins and strikeouts? Any type of players that are more valuable in this format?

Getting a guy like Crawford or Ellsbury who can almost win steals by themselves each week is something to think about.

I have a low stakes local league that I play in just to keep in contact with a few friends. It is 6x6 head-to-head roto. There definitely is the urge to play two start pitchers, but our league's 6th pitching category is losses. That's in place to make it a risk/reward scenario by grabbing extra starts. It can be entertaining, the season feels like less of a grind with a fresh start each week. Are you getting one W/L for the whole week or a W/L for each category? We get 12 W/L scenarios each week, one for each category.

I don't know if I agree with this. In a roto format, the speed guys can certainly win you a category by themselves. But in H2H, a guy who steals 50 bags over the course of the season is only averaging 2 per week. That doesn't seem like it would win many weeks by itself. I'd rather a guy who is a strong power guy who can contribute across 4 categories and hope to get lucky with steals here and there.

I agree with this. If you're going to get a guy for the sole purpose of winning SBs each week, you're better off picking Juan Pierre, Rajai Davis, Jose Tabata, or someone like that at the end of the draft then spending an early pick on one. I think the strategy to go for here is to spend pretty well your full first half of picks on taking batters. Then draft/pick up off waivers a tonne of SP and ensure you win Wins and K's every week. I'd use about 80% of my bench spots as SPs.

Load up on offense for the first 10-12 picks. Draft closers and great ratio MRs late. Let the streamers stream, win 4-5 hitting categories plus ERA/WHIP/Sv every week.

I played in this type of league last year for the first time. I tried to put together an all around team and I got crushed. It turned out I was better with pitching, but grabbing hitters is the way to go. You can't forget about pitching, but hitting is more important than pitching.
