I recently had an audiological evaluation through my primary care provider (Haahvuhd Vangaahd) in historic Meffid, MA. They determined I have moderate to severe hearing loss from 500hz - 8khz in the right ear and mild to moderate hearing loss from 750hz - 8khz in the left ear. I signed a "hearing aid contract" for a set of "Siemens Pure 7 bx RIC" hearing aids for $2,679 per heearing aid. Plus $290 per aid, apparently for loss & damage insurance. Not sure if that was optional. Oh, and let's not forget the $100 fitting fee. Per ear.
So all-in, I'm getting hosed here for close to $6k that is not covered by insurance.
When I googled these hearing aids online, I quickly found I could buy the same model for $1,799 per ear.
I guess my question is, how stupid was I to buy my hearing aids through my care provider instead of going online and ordering them there? Does the provider have to "tune" these aids to amplify certain frequencies more than others? Or do they just take them out of the box and show me how to put them on?
Thanks for all comments.
