Heat transfer shades for apartment in Miami without heating (1 Viewer)

I live in a 400 SF efficiency without heating. Several older hotels Miami Beach, including a few big ones, also have no heating. It's not an issue most years, but it's supposed to get down to the 40s in 2 days. A couple of years ago, it got down to 59 in my apt. Bearable, but cold. Space heaters are not allowed,  but I'm sure some people have them. Boiling a pot of water warms the apt about 2 degrees.

I have a 20 foot 3-panel south facing hurricane proof window. It doesn't open. I'd like to hang some black material in the window to warm my apt using suction hooks. What's the best cheap material? Black cloth, like used in landscaping as a weed barrier?  Black plastic bags?

You sure that will work?

What's with the limitations on space heaters?  Not even one like a self containted oil heater?

Get your ### an oil heater.  $40 at lowes.

If you get caught tell them you can turn off the heater but then you'll just turn the oven on and leave it open.

People produce about 300 to 400 BTU's per hour at rest.  Large people moving , more so.  Invite a couple of folks over for some vigorous activity and heat your place.
