Help Me Remember the Last Time a Team was Overhyped (1 Viewer)

The Jerk

Footballguy
It is unbelievable how many football media proclaimed them as Super Bowl contenders only to see them come out and be almost unwatchable, let alone fortunate to beat the Titans today. To this point, they have performed as the worst team in their division, which isn't exactly the toughest in the league.

Specifically, when was the last time a team that did not make the playoffs the previous season was overhyped to this degree?

Edited to fix grammar in topic description.

I know you're a Bengal fan, but I thought you could read. Or maybe you are now claiming that not only did the Steelers not win the Super Bowl, but they also did not even make the playoffs last year? Keep on going, and soon you'll be posting that the Steelers don't even exist.

Umm, how about they aren't even the most overhyped team this year in their own state.
I didn't see today's game, but it seems to me that the Bucs effort vs. Carolina was much better than anything the Dolphins have put up in their three games. 1-2 beats 0-3, but it's not just the record, it's the performance.

Car is overrated too.
Quite likely, however, I'd venture they're better than the Bills AND much better than the Titans.

Seriously? I didn't hear anything on Tampa. I think most thought they were a borderline playoff team at best.
LOL clean out your ears thenPlease stop saying what "most" think. TIA
Are you an English speaker? Check my predictions thread guy. Less than half thought the Bucs would even make the playoffs ande only Capella had them in the Super Bowl. That would be "most people" which in English sometimes suggests a "majority." Thanks for playing. :bye:

Even if they are. TB has looked flat pathetic until a late surge in today's game. I'd say Mia has at least put up better efforts by playing Pitt tough on the road and putting up at least 1 W. The Buf game was close too.

what?I only read the title if that's what you're wondering.
Fair enough -- just playing with you anyway.

Really don't give two ####s about your predictions thread. More people had the Bucs in the playoffs than the Dolphins. Oh sorry, I don't have a lame ### prediction thread to speak as to 'most' think. Tool.

So you're a little "slow" then. That's ok. Did you just say this?

then this?

:lmao: You just :own3d: youself in consecutive posts. Well done. That's pretty hard even for a non English speaker.

On the other hand, both of the other teams that beat TB are still undefeated, whereas the Bills and Steelers have each lost both of their other games. I'll settle for the fact that TB was also overrated, but I don't recall the media being as high on TB as Miami. You may be right -- perhaps I just missed it.

how about the 2006 Carolina Panthers
At least they made it to the conference championship game last year (thereby earning some media attention), and I think they get some measure of a free pass by not having their best offensive player on the field for the first two games.

I'd say that both teams were expected to be in the playoffs by most people. At least from what I've heard and seen. TB has simply looked lost and is 0-3. I don't care if they have played "tougher" teams so far. As you said before, it's about the performance. ;)

2003 Oakland Raiders. After losing the super bowl, they went 4-12.

2002 St. Louis Rams. After losing the super bowl, they went 7-9.

Not too many people saw those two free-falls coming.

Agreed. However, I'm asking about teams who did not make the playoffs the previous season and were blown up by the media into imminent juggernauts.

The Falcons ususally come to mind. No specific year, just any Vick was the QB. Virtually any/all NFC East teams on a yearly basis.
