I mean, you can do whatever you want... but if you are using a lemon, you are doing it wrong.

I will ask for a cucumber if I use Hendricks but have never had a lemon. This is going the way I thought.

this is the drink that put me into rehab.

the correct answer is lime. and the correct gin is Tanqueray
Back in the day I would keep Tanquery and Boodles both on hand. I actually preferred the Boodles, but I had the Tanquery for friends who feel as you do. I had a buddy who would smash a Kumquat into his gin and tonics. it was not bad, though I stuck with lime.

TIL....

Most gins have a small amount of lemon peel (zest from the rhind.) We prefer the lime because it contrasts with the existing botanical in the gin.

I shared the results with the other person and he asked about the type of sample group.

I told him they were mostly male and American and he responded, "and gay."

He sounds defensive about his sexuality. About my question if the bet was dinner . . .

On a side note... Where'd the G&T thread go? I'm not smart enough to find it using the search function.

Nolet's

Solveig

Although I do not drink mine with tonic, as I prefer a nice martini, I saw a lot more lemon being used last year with the lime shortage

I also see the classics coming back, aside from the martini. Aviation, Ramos Fizz, Floradora, and Negroni to name a few.

"So the 'pole' takers are mostly American and male."

Any citrus peel is acceptable. IMO a lime wedge as opposed to just peel is more unacceptable than an orange twist.
Exactly correct. I don't want the juice of a lime or lemon in this drink, just the twist, although I can't see using an orange.
It can really depend on the gin you use, as the botanicals can be so different. An orange twist works nicely with Bluecoat (which already has strong hints of orange and lemon).
