Yes, I know he's irrelevant, but where did he go wrong? I'm not in Detroit so I didn't see most of his games, but players don't decline at age 28 like that for no reason.

I didn't realize Detroit threw 123 fade routes to him in 1995, another 106 in 1996, and another 104 in 1997. And that he caught 31 fade route td's in those 3 years. Wow. That's alot of fade routes.

yeahprobably the best ever at going up for a short lob for a TD. Even with his bad knees the Giants signed him for goalline packages.IMO He was as good a receiver as I've ever seen except for very very few like Rice and all. He could do everything and those that didn't think so usually got burned thinking he wouldn't like going over the middle or somesuch. IIRC his college QB Shawn Moore was a backup on the Broncos for 3 years. Aside from a gorgeous long bomb pass, not sure he even deserved to be in the pros but...Herman made him look good so he was worth a shot.Scott Mitchell and WRs opposite him were all far better having played with Herman.

Herman ran very good routes, understood how to get body position, and had outstanding hands. He was a less physical Cris Carter and Michael Irvin. He always looked very smooth to me as a WR.

In addition to the knee problems, I also seem to recall him having back problems too.

Perriman was a 5 foot 9 WR that never had more than about 800 yards for his first 7 years in the league. When Herman's stats skyrocketed in 1995, Perriman had almost 1500 yards-double most of his previous seasons.

Wow, a Shawn Moore reference. I know Shawn - went to my high school. Awesome guy. Got screwed over when the Donks drafted Tommy Maddox.

And when he left Det and Moore for the confines of Arrowhead he flamed out in a quick, quiet poof ...

My favorite Lion ever. I went to one of his free WR clinics before I played football in HS. He was a great guy. Very friendly, patient with us kids, and took the time to sign autographs for everyone. I still have that signed card in a plastic case.

He started off his career with a whimper, then the Lions realized he needed his eyes examined. He got some new contacts and then got good.

Herman Moore was a beast. I remember Moore and Moore and co. blowing every one out in 1990 on their way to the #1 ranking until they played Georgia Tech. That was one of the 10 best college football games I've ever seen. Sisson hit the gamewinning FG as time expired and GTech went on to win the national title.

I enjoyed watching Herman in the pro's. Those Lions teams were fun to watch.

Herman Moore won me a fantasy game when he caught a 80+ yard TD in the fourth quarter of a primetime contest. Before that he was like 2-24 or something.

That's all I have on Herman Moore. But it does show how fleeting a carrer in the NFL is. You can totally dominate and then just disappear like you were never there. We should appreciate the long-lasting players for their endurance as well.
