It does, but there's a lack of education about the slippery slope from pain pills to heroin.

I don't understand this. Regular guy gets hooked on prescriptions then one day decides, hey, Heroin! Just going to call up my local dealer!

Solution: Make pain pills cheaper than heroin.

Pretty sad when Big Pharm asks for more money than the local drug dealer.

Can't blame it on big pharma. 90 tabs of oxy 30 (a month's supply) typically is in the $50-80 range to the pharmacy, then gets marked up at least another 50% to a cash paying customer. But the demand in the street is so great, that $1.50 pill gets marked up to $20 sometimes $30 a pop!

People get prescribed 90 30mg oxy's a month? 90mgs a day? That seems like a ton.

But yeah the markup on the street is insane. Someone with that script could make a lot of money selling it.

Heroin: Cape Cod, USA on HBO was pretty crazy how these kids just won't stop.

Watched this last night, and wow were you right. That was hard to watch. I'm pro-marijuana legalization, and heroin should never be legalized IMO just watching the damage heroin leaves in its wake for the users as well as their families and communities.

Costs shared with all the other drugs they are manufacturing. No advertising or promo to speak of either. I'd be curious to see real overhead numbers of oxy vs heroin.

A few months ago, I found out that one of my friend's fathers, a successful doctor who was our basketball coach growing up, was in rehab for heroin use about 5 years ago. It completely blew my mind. I knew younger, otherwise normal people were now using heroin because it was much cheaper than prescription drugs, but I couldn't imagine a 55 year old guy with a well paying job doing it.

Anyway, found out over the weekend that he's using again. Awful.
