According to NFL agent Alvin Keels' Twitter, Darrius Heyward-Bey's five-year deal with Oakland guarantees him $23.5 million.Keels isn't DHB's agent, but we imagine he knows Ben Dogra pretty well. The deal's base value is reportedly $38.25 million with the opportunity to make $15.75M more via incentives. Heyward-Bey's annual average is $7.65 million. For perspective, recently extended Greg Jennings' average is $6.7 million.
Wow.

That's nuts that he's going to be paid that much more than Jennings - so far most of the reports I've read usually just indicate he's constantly pulling hammys. The rookie scale is out of control, IMHO...

What's worse is Crabtree is going to want a very similar deal and he was not taken ahead of DHB.

Unreal for a guy thats the next Troy Williamson

The thing is with these deals is that it all isn't guaranteed.

DHB most likely isn't going to see all of that money and Jennings is probably going to see more of it....based on achievements.

If the original post is accurate, Heyward-Bey is guaranteed 23.5 million, while Jennings is only guaranteed 15 million in comparison. I agree that this will be addressed in the next CBA, and it's about time. The only good thing about this signing is that it should help get some of the other 1st rounders inked (and in camp) as well. Seems like there's an awful lot of 1st rounders unsigned for this time of year...

Only the Raiders could sign their first round pick, and it's seen as bad news. Soon as you guys find a rookie signing that's a steal, drop me a PM.

Hey...well at least he's signed...

I think the fact that he got this kind of deal must mean he looked good in the offseason. Also the sooner he gets into camp the better..

I'd be pretty Psyched having DHB as my #5 wr this year....

He would have signed earlier but he dropped the pen.

and this is from a guy who drafted him in a dynasty league

I'd imagine that Crabtree and Maclin will be signed soon with this contract out of the way. I imagine both agents wanted to see what Bey would pull down.

Good to see him signed. He gets a lot of #### because of being a Raider, but I think he's an intriguing talent with a good opportunity.

$23.5 is guaranteed. That alone is a lot of scratch for an unproven player. When you consider the contract the Raiders gave Javon Walker last offseason, they've tied up a lot of money for two players that may not contibute much at all. Right now Shilens and Higgins show a lot more promise.

Doen't that apply to most, if not all first round draft picks? And Walker's deal was restructured this offseason.

Yes. I guess it more depends on what you think of DHB though. I fall into the camp that says he was drafted based on his measurable and not necessarily his on field playing abilities. There's a huge risk giving him that kind of money, but admittedly the hand writing was on the wall for that once they drafted him at the No. 7 spot.
