Inheireted genetics aside, what lays the foundation of our romanticism, when does that start? I don't think it's uncommon to be "hot for teacher" as soon as elementary school. For a year we get to know our teacher pretty intimately, around the same time in our lives that we are really starting to learn and appreciate the difference between boys and girls. Being nervous in front of her, becoming comfortable with her, discovering attraction to her lady parts, only half understanding the gravity of the situation, later on fantisizing, preferring certain outfits she wears, its pretty romantic and really our introduction to romance.
And then (maybe at the height of romance) after a little less than 10 months, it ends. And then we move on to a new teacher the next year and do that dance again, this time liking it a little more, the little differences.
By high school we are used to forming multiple relationships each year, in extreme cases they become physical, male and female teachers alike.
The same could be said of the relationships we form with our classmates and those are probably even more significant.
Is the current grade school system setting us up for failure romantically later on in life?
