HIGHEST UPSIDE 3RD TIER TE (1 Viewer)

Specific to my scenario: 12-team league must start TE, already own Tony Gonzalez

Not looking for a TE to spell bye-week, but the guy who may explode (however unlikely) into a Top-5 TE potential out of Winslow, Clark, Troupe, Miller, Davis, Hilton.

Note: Excluding Watson who has already been highly touted by Footballguys and Jeremy Stevens who is injured.

My rankings:

1. Troupe - has already shown flashes and plays in a TE friendly offense that has capable but no featured players. 2nd TE may steal thunder, but history of Wycheck is encouraging.

2. Winslow - more opportunity to be featured than Troupe, but offense may struggle bigtime

3. Clark - gets only a small piece of the pie, but that pie is pretty darn big

4. Hilton - Brees has shown that he knows how to feature a TE, but it should be the Bush show

5. Miller - TD aside he is not that productive, but I like the talent on a good offense.

6. Davis - Johnson has had a great camp and appears to be heavily involved. 49ers may have the worst Qb and therefore passing offense in the league.

I'd put Miller at the top of that list. Bettis gone, Randle El gone, Ward nursing a bad hammy could all add up to a very big year for him. He will finish in the top 10, maybe even top 5.

I also think that Winslow is easily the TE listed above with the biggest upside. Some of the others are much safer bets for solid production, but since you arleady have your #1 TE and want to gamble on a TE that has the potential to be something special, Winslow seems to be the clear answer, IMO.

I agree. The other one that also has significant upside, in my opinion is Heath Miller. With Bettis no longer there (9 td's last year), I think the possibility of 10 td's for Miller (up from 6 last year) is not out of the question. Plus additional yardage, with more focus on him for short yardage gains. I don't think the Steelers took him in the first round in '05 just to be a blocker.

:goodposting: My thoughts exactly.I grabbed Shockey as my TE#1 and spent an surprisingly late round pick on KWII. Definitely worth the gamble if you already have a solid TE in the stable.

I think of the TE's listed Troupe has the most upside for this year. He had 55 catches last year and started 11 games. He will be even healthier this year and will likely be the starter all year. I think the door is wide open as his main competetion has been Kinney who has a bum knee right now. So I see his 55 catches, which was already decent, going up and him reeling in a 2-3 more TD's this year (I think he had 4 last year).

Miller would have been my vote as well, followed by Winslow and then Troupe. Miller ranked #11 last year, and I just can't see how he's not going to move up from there with an additional year of experience and the loss of Randle El.

Winslow by a wide margin.COlin
Smart man!!!
 Over Miller? Not a chance.I like my TE to be good.
I like my TE to score FF points in ways other than TDs. That way I can actually COUNT on production each week. From my low side in the Miller face off (free content):
TD-driven fantasy numbers should raise a red flag regarding consistency. Example: Bubba Franks. He was a fantasy force only when he had more than 7 TDs on the year. The problem is targets. Miller had only 52 in 2005. Cementing the idea that TEs with TD driven numbers are inconsistent are Miller's own numbers. From weeks 5 through 8, Miller boasted a nice 12.1 fantasy point average. Yet, he failed to crest 7 fantasy points in any game the rest of the way, averaged an extremely pedestrian 2.88 per game average, had two zero point games, and five games with 3 or fewer targets.
I don't like that outlook for my starting TE. That said, I don't expect much more from Winslow, and I have Winslow below Miller primarily because I believe Winslow's numbers will ALSO be TD driven (I have much less confidence most in the idea of Frye consistently getting Winslow the ball - and more confidence in Roeth looking for Miller in the red zone).BTW, what did you mean by "I like my TE to be good?" Fantasy good or NFL good?

1. Troupe

2. Miller

3. Winslow

4. Clark

5. Hilton (I still think he has a chance to emerge)

(I would look at putting Scheffler on this list, he will be solid)
