12 teams, no divisions
redraft serpentine, no keepers
$40 entry fee
round-robin schedule (11 weeks)
top 4 teams qualify for post-season
double elimination playoff tournament (4-5 weeks)
Scoring as follows:
QBs - 0.1 pt for every 5 yards passing, 0.2 pt for every 5 yards rushing/receiving combined
RBs, WRs, TEs - 0.2 pts for every 5 yards passing/rushing/receiving combined
All individual players - 3 pts per TD (0-39 yds), 6 pts per TD (40+ yds), 1.5 pts per FG (0-49 yds), 3 pts per FG (50+ yds), -0.5 pts per FG missed (any length), 0.5 pts per PAT kicked, 1 pt per 2 pt conversion (pass/run/catch), 1 pt per safety, 1 pt per defensive conversion.
Team defenses - 3 pts per TD (0-39 yds), 6 pts per TD (40+ yds), 1 pt per fumble recovery, 1 pt per INT, 1 pt per safety, 1 pt per defensive conversion, 5 pts per scoreboard shutout.
Individual players get credit for special teams TDs.
No IDP, PPR, sacks, TFL, fumbles lost demerits, missed PAT demerits, defensive yds against, defensive pts against.
A typical final score will work out to something like 46.3 to 37.8.
Draft order is determined by an online dice roll. New owners are slightly handicapped going in, as returning owners get points added to their rolls. That doesn't mean you can't outroll them and gain the first overall pick. It merely necessitates a higher roll.
Starting lineups consist of 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 RB/WR flex, 2 WRs, 1 WR/TE flex, 1 TE, 1 K, 1 DEF.
Free agency is handled in two phases: worst-to-first, then first come, first serve.
Payouts as follows:
$5 weekly high score bonuses (regular season only) x 11 = $55
3rd place (team that finishes 1-2 in the playoffs) = $50
2nd place (team that finishes 2-2 or 3-2 in the playoffs) = $100
1st place (team that finishes 4-1, 3-1 or 3-0 in the playoffs) = $200
NFL Pool Picks winner (through Week 17) = $5
Anyone that participates in the NFL Pook Picks contest gets 10 pts per correctly predicted game added on to their dice roll the following season, should they elect to return. That's where the aforementioned returning owner advantage lies. To reiterate, a rookie owner won the championship last year, so that (dis)advantage certainly isn't anything that can't be overcome.
If you're looking for:
a.) a well-established (since 1998) low risk pay league
b.) unorthodox, "low frills" scoring
c.) tooth and nail competition throughout
d.) no "weak division" advantages
e.) a shot at playoff redemption you won't find in a one-and-done bracket
Niteowl FFL is undoubtedly the league for you.
