Saints | Hilton re-signed

Mon, 24 Apr 2006 15:35:48 -0700

The New Orleans Saints have re-signed restricted free agent TE Zach Hilton (Saints) to an undisclosed contract.

Edited to add on Saints Super Forum his dad says that it is the 1-year tender only ... which makes him a UFA next year ... and smacks of 1st day TE ...

If the Saints take a TE Day One, potential worries. If the Saints wait and take a TE on Day Two given the depth at the position this year, then not so worried about Hilton over the next 2 seasons.

I like that we brought him back. He's taller than he is talented, but that counts for something. He needs to improve A LOT on his blocking.

He presents a good target for a QB used to throwing to his TE. "Lurch", as my friends and I call him, can catch the ball. He definitely needs to improve blocking but we're not seeing him on anything but passing downs.

Jeff Pasquino is jumping for joy that his sleeper got paid
Ahem.
Isn't that what I said. Don't throw your back out doing cartwheels.
Quit your whinning and start winning....every where I look you two are at each other like two scrappy school girls
what's your problem? I was giving him his props for his sleeper TE getting a contract. Look at the rankings and in the thread he cites ....

tankinmd - posts fairly regulary on saintsreport.com. Seems like a really good guy, maintains an admirable amount of objectivity when it comes to Zack ...

great post by tank (dad) on that board:No... I don't think Zach is a Gates like TE.

But I do think he can be a 60-80 Catch

800+ yards

11+ yards per catch

6-8 TD

40+ First down.

Per year...

TE.. I'd be pretty happy with that.

Hey scotty.1. [smoo] It is "whining", not "whinning". [/smoo] Seeing as you're more accustomed to whining than winning, I find the error ironic.

2. You may now go stand in the corner and come out when you can be excellent to one another.

:bye:

I realize he isn't going to be among the highest paid yet, but where does this rank?Seems almost like backup cash.

My concern exactly. They have not made the commitment of a multi-year deal, and he will be a UFA next year ... not exactly how you treat your young stud TE ...Again, I worry that this smacks of TE on day one ... unless they come back with a long term extension in short order ...

I was thinking they may want to see how he does, but if he excels, he'll be expensive, not to mention probably gone.Unless of course he wanted a short deal.
