Watching the game tonight, some buddies and I were discussing the King's Ransom paid by the Redskins to move up four spots in this year's NFL draft. Let's be real, on the surface this seems like an epic failure of a trade on the level of the Viking's acquisition of Hershel Walker from the Cowboys. The Rams will certainly benefit over the coming years, but only time will tell with the Redskins.

In our discussion, one interesting question emerged: if you could go into the future and know that, in five years, the Redskins would win a Super Bowl and RGIII would have combined for 25,000 yards of offense, how much would you have traded? Our consensus was that RGIII would have been worth four first round picks, a second, and a third. In other words, given a ring, the Redskins came out well too. What do you guys think?

(no cynics please, you can't argue that knowing a Super Bowl was coming, it would be worth trading all 35 picks over 5 years)

this is my answer. why is this not acceptable  you wouldn't give more than a 1, 1, 1, 1, 2 and 3 for a guaranteed superbowl?all things equal, you should expect to win the superbowl once every 32 years. ignoring monetary profits, winning a superbowl is well worth destroying your franchise for the next 5+ years

The Redskins who do not have to worry about free agent money it was a no-brainer. Unlike most teams they can easily make up for the loss of draft picks through free agency.

You also have to consider the money aspect of this whole thing, with the new rookie wage scale.

Rewind 2 years, Bradford signed a 6 year deal worth $78M with $50M guaranteed.

Now, with the rookie wage scale, RG3's contract is 4 years for $21M (all guaranteed). This deal in total is less than half of the guaranteed money that Bradford got. I mean seriously, this guy will "only" make $1.34M next year, and only $2.3M the year after. Compare that against the $20M per year that Peyton Manning will make over that timeframe, and the Skins got a great deal in this trade paying what's typically the highest paid position on your roster so little. Assuming he's all they think he will be, that frees up enough $ to go sign two high profile FA's next year (well it would if they didn't have that salary cap penalty to deal with).

the rams took the cowards way out of the draft. there's no two ways about it. Quality always trumps quantity. Their first pick Michael Brockers is hurt. their line is in shambles right now (they could have taken Matt Kalil at 2 and that would have been a better use of pick). If you believe in Bradford than protect Bradford. The state of tackles in the league are so bad, Kalil was an awesome easy pick to make. In short I hate the trade down. Stars and difference makers are what make the league go round. not a run stuffing Dt and a wide out from Appy State.

The same go for future 1st's that the Rams received. They will be able to sign a lot of guys to cheap contracts. Here's what they got for Griffin:Michael BrockersJanoris Jenkins Isaiah Pead Rokevious Watkins (new starting LG guard after C Wells' injury)Redskins 2013 and 2014 1st

I like the way this guy thinks. Huge overvalueing of draft picks/prospects in all sports. Win now if you can.

Correct, but those future picks may be in the 16-32 range should the Skins go .500, and it would be "doubtful" that you'd land a franchise QB at that point in the draft. QB is typically the highest paid player on the team, and the Skins locked that down for pennies on the dollar, allowing them to free up that unused money to put talent around RG3.

Well heck that last part ain't quite as valuable as the day of teh trade, now is it.Saints Fans agree: Grossman was much better.

To win in NO was impressive but it wasn't the Saints we're used to seeing. The Redskins do have a winnable games coming up but starting week 7 there's only one game where they should be favored (Browns). I still will be shocked if they finish 8-8.
