Make sure you take these guys out of your lineups for this Sunday, the Steelers have a bye week 6, by then Ward should be ready to come back Week 7.

Steelers' Ward, McFadden won't play Sunday

Friday, October 05, 2007

By Gerry Dulac, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

The Steelers will be without Pro Bowl receiver Hines Ward and cornerback Bryant McFadden for Sunday's 1 p.m. game against the Seattle Seahawks at Heinz Field, Coach Mike Tomlin said today.

It the second game in a row Ward will miss with a sprained knee. He has not practiced since sustaining the injury Sept. 23 against San Francisco.

Tomlin said he will list safety Troy Polamalu (rib cartilage) and nose tackle Casey Hampton (hamstring) as questionable, even though neither player practiced this week and are not expected to play.

Thanks, Hank. You beat me to it.

Ward being out is a huge blow to the Steelers passing and running game as Nate Washington has stone hands and can't run block. I don't what the Steelers see in him. McFadden being out is going to hurt but I do like the rookie Gay (NTTAWWT).

This was going to be a tough game regardless but Ward is now out and if Hampton & Polamalu out I would take the 6 pts and the Hawks...

Crap stupid Ward I almost want to cut him now rather than wasting a roster space
Dont jump off the ship quite yet!Ben is notorious for looking for Hines in the red zone, as well as any pass on a 3rd down or a critical play. As a Ward owner myself, I am frustrated, but I know whenever he comes back, he will rack up some TDs and receptions. Try to stay as patient as possible, PIT has a bye week 6, Ward should be raring and ready to go after the bye.

Well spoken GB. Nate Washington hasnt done much, although he did have a nice catch in traffic vs. ARI. I hope that the Steelers trot out Cedric Wilson more on Sunday, it seems to me although he lacks size, he has enough speed, and decent hands to open up the field with Santonio, allowing Parker to run with space. The key for this game is to get HEATH involved and use Parker early and often!

NOT expected to play???? This is news, isn't it? if you ask me, Polamalu not playing is bigger than Ward not playing!

Spaeth is also going to be back so I expect to see more multiple TE sets.

I guess I'll start Branch with confidence. Hoping for lots of offense in this game.
The Hawks fed Branch the ball last week despite drawing Clements in coverage so they might do the same but I like Engram in this game as a sneaky start. With Mcfadden out Engram will likely benefit from drawing rookie William Gay in coverage.Regarding Hines. I've been saying all week he would not play this weekend and that's the right move with the bye week coming. He also won't be a good start when he comes off the bye and faces Denver. After that he gets a sweet stretch of games so if you own him try to be patient. Don't worry about Holmes hurting his value either. I had said prior to the season that Holmes would help Hines in the way Plaxico did and in todays Pittsburgh Post Gazette Hines had the same view point. So if you can be patient with Hines I think you will get rewarded later. As was mentioned Nate Washington has crappy hands and adding a better third WR should be at the top of their off season to do list unless. What I would like to see is Willie Reid get provided more chances.

ummm.. McFadden was the #3 behind Ike Taylor and Deshea Townsend

And Engram is the slot receiver, who usually draws the #3 corner.

Branch is #1, who is #2?

Burleson is the #2.

Per RotoWorld, the Steelers will most likely be missing Troy P. and Hampton as well. Huge blow to that defense.

I would like to start Ben at QB, but I fear that Seattle, which uses defensive schemes similar to AZ will be able to keep FWP in check, and will double Holmes, translating to 175/1/2 for Ben. If I want picks, I'll just start Trent Green (at least I'll get 275 yards out of him).

No thats wrong. Engram is the slot receiver and Burleson is the starter with Hackett out. Engram might see the second most targets but he's not the #2 WR and he works mainly against teams nicked corners.

Officially, both Engram and Burleson have started 3 games (Seattle started 3 WRs in weeks 2 & 3). They both have the same # of targets overall (24).Ironically, Engram got the most targets in the game that he did not start.

I'm most interested in the status of NT Casey Hampton as I have to start SA this week. Hampton is such a big piece of Pitt's run defense; if he's out, SA MIGHT be able to have a decent game game as opposed to a crap/non-existent one.

I'm not telling you one way or other what decision to make, but Pitts. has a very solid NT backup in Chris Hoke and their defense barely missed a step when Hoke replaced Hampton down the stretch in 2004. Obviously, nearly anyone is a step down form Hampton but don't underestimate Hoke.

Oh, I totally agree...that's why I said "MIGHT" in all caps as emphasis.... Hoke is solid NT, but Hampton is a pure beast...

 I would hardly characterize Hoke as solid. Huge downgrade from Big Snack. This is a real loss for the D-unit as the O-line will be able to man up the NT and free the G/C to get to the 2nd level. Hoke simply cannot occupy 2 blockers and will provide no interior pressure. Not underestimation, but fact.

Throw in the fact he is dealing with the after effects of a spinal cord concussion and the front 7 is in trouble.

Alexander will find far more room to run opening up the Hags O dramatically.

An already tough match-up with SEA is significantly tougher with Hoke in there. Not to mention Ward, Polamalu and McFadden's likely absence.

Nothing against Hampton but when the lost him in 2004 the Steelers inserted Hoke and did not skip a beat so despite how you choose to characterize Hoke he has already shown to be a solid replacement. The banged up secondary is going to cause problems for the Steelers as I expect the Seahawks focus to be on attacking the secondary, not getting Shaun Alexander going.

:goodposting: Hoke has filled in admirably in the past. It's not NT Hoke im worried about, its the safety situation.
