Hines Ward is classless (1 Viewer)

What ba Total POS for a teammate. Look I have heard Ben isn't exactly the nicest guy but I would throw a few high balls to Hines over the middle.

Anyone who watched the pregame heard that from Ward.

Roethlisberger went to Tomlin last night but the HC made the call.

Regardless, I don't know that it makes him classless, but this kind of attitude is a bit ignorant.

I think when it comes to concussions, you should err on the side of caution.

Lot of chatter the last few weeks about this, and I think that will become the norm.

You get knocked out, don't expect to play next week.

just sounds like hines ward is saying if it was him he would play...hes just being macho...so if he would suck it up so should ben...theres alot of tough guys who think like hines does...that showing weakness is for #######...not THAT big a deal

Hines has been a great player and pretty good teammate throughout his Steeler career. Unfortunately he's developed a bad habit of talking too much.

Weird. I didn't think Ward's comments lacked class or were over the top. I thought the more concerning issue was that Ward made his comments public....if he wants to say that stuff to Ben or Tomlin behind closed doors, more power to him. But he shouldn't air those comments on TV.

Not sure if he lacked class or not but the comments were ignorant. He shouldn't even be questioning this internally........let alone in public.

I think Florio is reading stuff into Ward's comments that isn't there.
As someone said earlier, Ward was interviewed prior to the game and it was aired just before the game started. There was nothing to misinterpret. Ward was clear about how he felt. :D ETA Not even sure why the article uses the word "implies"...the "implication" was clear.

well, put me in the minority then.

I love Hines Ward.

I love that he spoke truthfully to the media about how he felt, how the locker room was divided, and about how he's played in pain and lied to doctors.

Yes, I agree it's a bit ignorant of him to say/feel that way, but it is the result of the NFL culture he lives/breathes; a culture that must be changed if/when this whole head-injury topic is thoroughly addressed.

Hines Ward lays it all out on the field, for the full duration of play.

And he expects his opponents to do the same.

I just laugh at all the people who would pile on him.

I'd love to have him on my team.

Don't you think plenty of NFL players tough it out each week, despite serious injuries? It's a bit naive to think otherwise, and completely reasonable for Ward to have internal discussions about this. It is not, however, sensible for him to yap about it publicly.

especially if they don't manage players' injuries evenly across the board:Ben Roethlisburger? no way is he playing with a headache.Backup TE? who cares, get in there and get your job done.that's where the issue really starts to irk players.

Fair enough. I guess it's just hard for me to understand how anyone would question an injury to the head.

Yes it's true. But that doesn't make Ward classless -- it makes him ignorant.

Methinks Ward has played with one too many concussions and now it's affecting his ability to form coherent thoughts.

This just in: Some players are more important than others. If you're a backup TE, it's not so much the coaches are saying, "Who cares, get in there and get your job done." They're basically saying, "Hey, if you say you can't play, then you can't play. I can't literally make you play. But, you probably already know that you are very replaceable and I can get someone else in there that can play."

You can't compare a tissue or bone injury to the brain. If your knocked out of a game and suffer a concussion you are not out of control in deciding if you want to give it a go in a week. The doctors control that process a lot more these days. I am sure Ben wanted to play....does anyone really doubt that?Apparnently Hines Ward does.....he should #### and keep it behind closed doors and in the family. Ben has led this team to 2 championships and in my eyes is one of the toughest QB's in the league.

Are you that ignorant?Wow.

Hines has been a great player and pretty good teammate throughout his Steeler career. Unfortunately he's developed a bad habit of talking too much.
I think you are onto something with this.I dont understand why people are so surprised to learn that a professional athlete isnt heroic in all aspects of their life. It takes tremendous dedication, focus and even obsession to become a professional athlete. While the rest of us are watching the evening news, Hines Ward is probably thinking about football and how he can be better at it. The tunnel vision and focus that helps to forge elite performers doesnt exactly lead them down a path of being well rounded human beings.

Hines is the kind of player that you love to have on your team and love to hate if he is on someone elses.

Ward is reflecting the values of Old School football. You used to be expected to just play hurt. Period. Concussions in particular were something that were not treated seriously. Ward is wrong. But there is still a culture in the NFL that if you can play, you "suck it up" and play. I don't think this means he is classless but he is ignorant about the dangers of concussions. He is probably telling the truth though when he says he has played with concussions before and many people in and out of the NFL respect that attitude.

He is a warrior. And a heck of a football player. He needs to keep it in the family though. You don't call out your General (who led you and your brothers to two Super Bowls) to the media....that is bad form and really out of line.

If you want to watch a bunch of girlie men play with dolls, I see what you mean, but this is football. I would want a team full of guys like Hines.

Not so sure that Roethlisberger agrees with this right now.

You get the impression that everything with this guy is a macho **** size competition. Hines Ward seems like the kind of guy who would dunk on his 5 year old daughter while playing in the backyard....and revel in it.

The lack of Hines defenders in here is pretty amazing. They usually come out in droves to defend the "Hines has no class" claims.

Makes sense though. It's one thing to deliver cheap shots to opponents. It's quite another to deliver cheap shots at Roethlisberger. Not much to defend on this one.

Give me more Big Bens....guys who are as tough as nails and win with class. How old are you? 12?
