Hines Ward: (1 Viewer)

While I heartily agree with Ward it is probably not a good thing to be saying to the media.

Guy gets his tough guy reputation by delivering cheap shots and publicly complains about getting fined?

No reason to expect him to take responsibility here either.

 Same story, different week. Pitt doesn't utilize the running game enough. They have themselves (Tomlin and Arians) to blame.
True but the Steelers racked up over 500 net yards and possessed the ball over 44 minutes. That should be enough to win you the game. There were a few calls I didn't like but the main reason they lost were mistakes made on the field by the players.Hines has been a great player for the Steelers and has done good things in the community. He just needs to keep his mouth shut after a frustrating loss...

Steelers lost 3-0 turnovers (teams are 0-30 this year under that scenario).

Allowed another KO return and nearly an INT return.

8 penalties for 85 yards

"I take responsibility for that performance," Tomlin said. "I have to have this football team better prepared to play."

That sums it up. So the Steelers are 6-4 and haven't consistently played the kind of football they're capable of. We'll see what this team is all about over the next 6+ games.

Anyone who questions Arians, given the success his offense has had this season, is profoundly off base.Thing is he and his QB are similar. They play 95% of the game at an elite level and then the other 5% is just horrific. They are both greedy as hell and are always looking for the one shot strike rather than situational football plays. The sweep to Moore on 3 and 2 was one of the worst called plays that I have seen in a professional football game since Ben's QB keeper against the Jags a couple years ago.On the opponents side of the 50, the only answer is to pound Mendenhall up the gut twice. Losing yardage like Moore did just makes it a 1 down series. That said this offense has dominated the entire season, with the exception of the last Bengals debacle. Special teams has cost them 3 wins.Ligashesky should be gone yesterday at this point. This teams struggles are not on Arians shoulders.

when you get a decent lead, conventional wisdom is to RUN the clock out. the more time taken off with each play leaves less plays to make mistakes in. ariens admitted a few weeks ago after a loss that he got greedy but apparently didnt learn the lesson.

I guess this is why air attacks by Peyton Manning and Drew Brees are causing their teams to lose, while running teams like Carolina, Jacksonville, and Tennessee are successful.....The steelers are not losing because they are passing, they are losing because the defense and special teams are so horrible....It doesn't matter if you are eating up the clock by pounding the ball, when as soon as you do, the opposition is returning kickoffs or completing 65 yard bombs.

I don't understand.......you have pointed out the problems, then excuse the culprit??

Context

"The coaches have to put us in a better position," said Hines Ward, as tenured a Steelers player as you can find and a man who had just wasted a 10-catch, 128-yard performance. "All of us have to look in the mirror, but we're all in this together; the coaches have to evaluate themselves as much was we do."

The first thing Tomlin and his offensive staff have to ask themselves is whether they trust Mendenhall to win a game for them, because even though he nearly had done exactly that without authorization in 60 minutes of 600 Steelers mistakes, they still utilized him in the overtime like he was Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Mind you, there would have been no overtime without Mendenhall.

Without Mendenhall, the Steelers lose in regulation.

It's obvious that Ward is talking about the pitch play with their slowest rb which resulted in 3 yd loss that knocked them out of any possible FG range. Stupid play call. Arians may or may not be good as far as schemes go, but Tomlin needs to take away his play calling duties.

There's a personality defect with this team right now. It seems as if they've lost a bit of cohesion. I think Tomlin should be able to reign it in, but I wonder where this discord originated.

It can be hard to distinguish the quality of the players from the quality of the play call. Sometimes good players can make bad plays work (see Big Ben) and sometimes they can't (see Moore). I have lots of respect for Moore but that was not the play to call and he wasn't fast enough to make lemonade from the lemon.

When a team is use to winning and you start losing it will happen. Nothing will right the ship more than a win.

Yeah it probably came across that way. Unintended.Thing is this, out of that entire KC game I can hang one play on Arians. The sweep to Moore. Otherwise he called an excellent game. That example was his 5% horrific. It's possible Batch checked to that play because of the wrist injury too.

Arians has yet to throw a pick, drop a pass, miss a block, run the wrong route, or draw a boneheaded flag.

His results have been nothing short of brilliant this season, the players have failed to execute at key points

That's the story of the season too date.

Arians calls an exceptional game that is marred by one or two questionable calls that ultimately lie in the execution.

If Ben will learn to check out of a run when the box is stacked, into a run when he sees cover 2 variants, and hit his checkdown receiver instead of taking crucial sacks or throwing bad picks Arians looks like a top 5 O coordinator.

People hate to hear it, but if there is a criticism of this offense it is on Ben's shoulders and in lesser part the receivers drops.

Ligashesky should be fired yesterday.

The only real problem now is giving up 4 TDs in 5 weeks on kick returns. That merits a coach firing. Spotting a team 7 pts. every week is just horrible. This loss was good for the Steelers and Hines getting frustrated and fired up will only make them regain focus going forward (this is only good because Baltimore and Cincy lost as well). This is their final wake-up-call for the season and they should either regroup and make a run at the Superbowl, or show their usuall complacency and ride the season out with the Superbowl Champ hangover effect.

I don't know about the Colts but the Saints run the ball far more than the Steelers do. I'd bet they were close to 50/50.And as much as I love him, Ben isn't Peyton or Drew.
