Holmes could be disciplined for gaming investment (1 Viewer)

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/jets/post/_/id/5692/report-holmes-could-be-disciplined-for-gaming-investmentOk as a fan of Santonio and a Dynasty Owner of him. (Which I had to Franchise Tag him and raise his salary from 3 to $11) This makes me very upset. :wall: :hot: What does this mean for this year and for dynasty??Suspension of a few games and no long term deal from the Jets or what. Grr what the heck Santonio.
I have no idea how this might impact him as far as contract offers (from the Jets or other teams), but I can't imagine how the NFL would have any legal way to penalize him, or the other players. The owners opted out of the CBA, and the owners locked out the players. As a result, I can't see how there is any legal (or contractual) restriction on these players investing in these businesses (just like I find it hard to believe that players like Britt could be disciplined for their "antics" this off-season).

Holmes is one of 25 NFL players who could be disciplined by the league for investing in an Alabama bingo and entertainment company, according to a report by Yahoo!Sports. Under league rules, a league employee isn't allowed to associate with a gaming operation. The NFL is sensitive to the gambling issue, and understandably so.
So a league that makes its teams publish injury reports for no other reason than for betting purposes (let's face it why else would teams be required to divulge that info?), allows state lotterys to use their teams images on advertising and games, and actively runs a fanatasy football website that awards cash prizes is going to suspend players for investing in a bingo parlor?

:goodposting: While a guy like Kenny Britt might get nothing. Utterly ridiculous

I'll say again, I don't see how the NFL could "legally" discipline Holmes. He is not an employee right now, as the NFL has locked out all the players. Any contractual language prohibiting the players from being involved in this type of business is void, right now. This is probably why Britt might get nothing, as well. A player on the Ravens fought in a professional boxing match recently. I'm sure there is language in his contract that would prohibit that type of activity, as well, if the players weren't being locked out.

While the NFL may not be able to do anything as it stands today, many feel it will be written into the new CBA that the league can retroactively suspend players for actions done while the union is decertified. Personally I think it is a small chip for the union to give away, for a better overall financial deal.

Im real sure the owners are all well damnit if you must have more of the pie fine but we want to suspend those evil doers!!!!
