Holmes Practices..... (1 Viewer)

Kansas City tailback Priest Holmes didn't practice Wednesday because of his sprained ankle and appears increasingly likely to miss Sunday's game against Houston.
LinkClayton must be mistaken about the number on Priest's jersey.

I believe I may leave this thread far more confused than when I entered. How freakin' difficult is it to get a definitive report of what Priest did in a practice that was probably open to the public? Geesh.

Well, we know from the injury report that he did not practice for the entire "team" practice -- the 11 on 11 team drills. My guess is that he practiced for some portion of the practice (maybe not any of the 11 on 11 drills) and thus Clayton's report that he practiced "a bit". Then a lot of the other news organizations, seeing on the report that he missed "team" practice, decided that "oh, Priest wasn't able to practice."Like I said, just a guess.

Pigskin Fanatic,I have difficulty with lending any credibility to a beat writer in Washington, DC about a player over 1,000 miles away. The information presented in Maske's article is generic and basically useless.Especially since he has little or no visibility. Clayton is a highly visible national NFL reporter/ analyst/ cover person who makes his living providing information such as he did yesterday. He has no reason for lying or mistaking Priest Holmes jersey number.Maske's information is simply a "pass along" and is obviously not first hand information!

Fair enough. How about a beat writer in Kansas?
Johnson not happy -- Running back Priest Holmes did not practice Wednesday and is questionable for Sunday's game with an ankle sprain sustained against Carolina.
Kansas.comClayton didn't say he practiced. He said Holmes was at the practice.

Listening to Sirius NFL Radio at about 12:30, a guy on there said the Chiefs are in trouble as they'll be without their top offensive weapon, since Priest Holmes is out. This is not a direct quote, and he said it like it was common knowledge.

Ivan Carter from the KC Star just said on the Dan Patrick Show that Priest isn't practicing today at all and won't be playing. Blaylock will start and LJ will get some touches. Seemed pretty confident in that opinion...take it fwiw.....

I heard the interview also and just to clarify, he said he didn't think Holmes was going to play. That's his opinion but it appears more and more likely. Coach also said Holmes could miss practice and still play. Sounds like the dreaded game time decision.

If I had to put $$ on it, I would guess Blaylock gets 80% of the carries based on what I saw last Sunday. LJ was bascially holding Blaylocks water bottle. The fear here is if LJ steals the goalline carries :hot: :hot: .

We can pound it out hourly here in the Pool or we can just wait for the reports, especially the final injury report Friday. If you have Blaylock, you need to pay close attention Sunday morning as it's a noon CST kickoff. If you have LJ it's a dice roll, IMO. I'd take a differnt option if I had LJ from what I've read.I have Blaylock and I'll be right here Sunday morning and watching the pregame shows as well. ;)

Just to "pound" it a bit more, this from KFFL:

Chiefs | Holmes Remains Out; Unlikely to Play - from www.KFFL.comThu, 23 Sep 2004 15:15:33 -0700Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports Kansas City Chiefs RB Priest Holmes (ankle) did not practice again Thursday, Sept. 23, and remains unlikely to play against the Houston Texans.
There's our boy Adam again...anyone here from Clayton?

Okay I am gonna thorw you for another loop maybe. I am in KC and on 810 WHB, it is being reported Holmes and Kennison both were running on the practice field today. Holmes told the reporter that if he could walk he would play......make of it what you want.I am starting to think Priest will play.

From Chiefs.com

Q: What about Priest Holmes and Eddie Kennison?VERMEIL: “Priest worked out a little bit at the end of practice. He did just some jogging and starting exercises and figure eights and all that. He felt pretty good about that. I think he’s questionable to doubtful. Eddie Kennison did some striding, and he felt pretty good about it. I think he’s questionable to doubtful.”Q: Are you optimistic about Priest Holmes at all playing on Sunday?VERMEIL: “No, we’re preparing to play without him. I think that’s our best approach. Personally I wouldn’t want to play him if he wasn’t really ready. I wouldn’t want to injure it further to the point where he misses more ballgames. It’s not that we don’t need him, but I think we owe it to him to make sure he’s really right before we just stick him in there.”

I would take this guys report over the KC Star. I dunno anything about that paper but they had conflicting reports from different reporters on the same day. :loco: I'm going to continue to hold out hope and keep an eye on the official reports.

There's nothing contradictory in these two quotes of course -- not unusual for hurt players to want to play and coaches not wanting them to worsen the injury.

Agreed...Deuce did just that earlier this week. But at least Haslett had the good fantasy sense to squelch those ideas early do the FF world could prepare properly. ;)

I still think that if Priest can walk, he'll play. The Chiefs are 0-2 and can't really afford to lose again. Priest is their best player, he'll be in the lineup if it is at all possible.

 I was thinking the same thing

ESPN's Andrea Kramer talked to Chiefs running back Priest Holmes on Thursday, and she reported that Holmes has every intention of playing on Sunday. Kramer said that Holmes did not practice or do much on Thursday, but he told her that if he can walk, he could play on Sunday. Holmes is listed as questionable with a sore ankle.
Priest says he's playing. We'll have to see if Vermeil agrees.

Even the kind-hearted Vermeil realizes that the Chiefs are in trouble. They need ALL their weapons. Unless Priest is unable to walk, he'll play...

Imagine the roasting Vermeil would get if he gambles on a hurt Holmes and Priest suffers further injury that rules him out for a lengthy period of time.

I have Priest on 2 teams and don't think there is a chance in hell that the Chiefs risk him against the lowly Texans. 0-2 or not.

I sure hope Vermeil and Priest realize what they're doing to me with this injury situation. Priest's ankle is very PAINFUL for me. I sure hope these guys get their "stuff" together soon so I don't have to continue to suffer like this!! The Mighty Ducks are in agony Priest; get it together!

I suggest you tape up your "swanstucker", and gut it out.

The latest and greatest:

It’s not that we don’t need him, but I think we owe it to him to make sure he’s really right before we just stick him in there.”Q: How is your game plan and philosophy going to change with him not in the lineup?VERMEIL: “Not at all. We never change it when we put Derrick in the ball game anyway, nor will we change it if Larry goes in. We prepare our offense and those guys work on everything, all through practice sessions prior to anybody getting hurt. Priest always gets more reps, but Derrick Blaylock especially is an experienced player and a very smart football player. Larry is very smart; he just doesn’t have any reps.”
Q: Do Blaylock and Johnson give you a nice mix of backs?GREEN: “They are different backs, you’re right. Derrick has done a great job in terms of his speed, his ability to hit the hole, his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. Where Larry’s made great improvement is trusting his blocks and running with power, not trying to run around the end and those kind of things that he maybe got away with at the college level. I think he maybe understands the run game and the blocking schemes better, being able to read his offensive line better to hit the holes better. I think that year has given him time to grow in that regard. He’s definitely much better in his pass protections, which gives me confidence, and his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield has improved. He was one of the guys at training camp who I really thought stood out up in River Falls. Larry played so much better this training camp than he did a year ago and that just comes with experience and understanding the offense. I think both will do well.”

Jeeze, one measly sentence about Blaylock and then **** carries on about LJ forever. Maybe he's feeling guilty...

It seems the Texans D is stiffier against the run (55/216/1) than against passing (49-35/374/5) this season in 2 games.

The problem is, that the Chiefs O is vice versa (run 51/276/4 and passing 66-33/323/0).

Both teams are 0-2 (and Houston lost against SD, well that scaries me).

If Holmes suites up (making the warm ups and all) I predict he is going to play.

I don't know the passing abilities of Blaylock and L. Johnson, but I know the O is thin in pass catchers and Holmes is also a weapon in the passing play.

Some infos about the pass catching abilities of Blaylock and Johnson are welcome!

I hope they figured it out till 12 pm CET, where I have to give my starters.

I have Holmes in both of my leagues.

There's no way in hell Priest plays this week. They need him healthy for the rest of the year. KC will be able to get it done with Blaylock and Johnson against Houston at Arrowhead. C'mon.

Houston is no push-over, and you can bet that Vermeil is trying to instill that the team needs to be ready!KC can pretty much kiss the season good-bye if they start 0-3.If Priest is healthy, then he plays no question.

I love itI've got Blaylock on my roster and would love to see Priest go in there and snap his ankle in half.I know diaper boy isn't gonna handle the rock for the rest of the yearIf I was a Priest owner I would pray to god they sit his butt for 1 week

I'm counting on the Priest in several leagues myself. I'd much rather see him sit this week and be ready the rest of the way instead of risking further injury. Then again, I always covered my back by drafting Blaylock (never Johnson).

I know **** has said Blaylock is going to start this weekend, but he's talked a heck of a lot more (insulting and praising) LJ. Others have said that's probably to try and light a fire under his butt so he's ready to work. No one out there thinks LJ would end up carrying the load if Priest is out for more than 1 game? And no one thinks LJ is a good start even this week?I'm getting the feeling that **** secretly likes LJ. But maybe I'm projecting since I own LJ and not Blaylock...

I love itI've got Blaylock on my roster and would love to see Priest go in there and snap his ankle in half.
Classy. I hope every player on your roster gets the clap and is out for the season.

I can't believe what I just read :bag: :bag: :bag: :bag:

Seems typical. You know what's interesting about Mcbackup, all his running backs seem to be back ups. You'd think he could pick a RB that actually starts rather than ones that ride the pine.In any case, McIdon'thavearunningbackthatstarts has lost any remaining credibility he had left with his post. So long Mcloser.

Can someone explain how Larry Johnson is #2 on the KC depth chart for the last 6 months, yet Blaylock is starting?I can't stand **** Vermeil! :hot: He has no respect for fantasy football players.

I've got Blaylock on my roster and would love to see Priest go in there and snap his ankle in half.
very very immature remark. I don't know you but I hope your about 10 years old. If your any older than that you have issues.

:penalty: Now we don't want that, that would hurt all the respectible FF players teams as well  Wish upon him a case of incurable impotence, that way his lifestyle will match personality. He's probably a "half-mast" man as it stands now

I would wish him stupidity, but he has that covered in spades. :(

Oh relax..... What I said was mostly in funn ... thats why we play this game isn't it. Obviously there seems to be a lot of Priest owners in here who are a little bit worried about there boy and as well should be but I know all the non-Priest owners are smiling at the thought of Priest sitting for this week (and perhaps more) and leveling the FF playing field. When my guy Deuce went down with injury I was watching the game with my leaguemates at one of there houses ... when they showed the update of Deuce being carted off I was pointed at and laughed at and asked what I was gonna do ???I had no hurt feelings whatsoever and actually laughed because this is the part of the game that is fun. Taunting and laughing at your buddies. So if Priest goes down you bet I will be pointing and laughing at all Priest owners in FF. If you get hurt feelings than maybe you should take up ballett or cooking classes

810WHB's Chiefs correspondent just reported on the hourly update that Holmes worked out with the team today. It was a typical Friday workout in shorts and shells so I don't know if any knowledge can be gained. The post-practice interviews haven't been aired as of yet.

I for one, am thinking that there's a sliver of a chance that LJ could be the man (in case Priest is down for longer than just this game) because of Vermeil's remarks; had a roster spot and picked him up. Long shot though..

It's their houses, not "there houses" and their boy, not "there boy", and it's ballet, not "ballett". Of course don't mind me, because what I said was mostly in fun, not "funn".
