Holt, entering 2nd tier of WRs? (1 Viewer)

I don't know what the deal is considering his blistering start, but Holt has been a straight-up GHOST since his BYE week. Before that, he was an obvious guess as the top or a top 2 WR.

Anyone have any insight? I know the defense has gone to pot and they've been working the running game more, but the difference isn't slight!

Any input appreciated.

EDIT: Before I get reamed for the "2nd tier WR" comment, I should say that it's more of a moving from "Must Start" to "situational start" for me. Of course, my other options are Colston and Steve Smith...

Still a "must start" for me with my other receivers being Driver and Galloway (start 2 + flex), but he's certainly fallen from STUD status over the past 5 weeks.

It's amazing to think that I actually had the LT owner considering LT for Holt going into that bye.

he's absolutely getting the targets, that's for sure.

i haven't seen the games, so that means:

(1) bruce is no longer the threat he once was so covereage is rolled over to holt more now

(2) the rams are in a lot more 2nd and long / 3rd and longs b/c of all the sacks so the targets holt has been getting are low percentage plays

(3) Pressure on Bulger has rattled him, he gets the passes off but they are off target

ETA, i don't know if any of these are the explanation, but it seems like a good start in situations like these.

Any rams fans that can shed some light?

Finally, when targets don't equal production it's not unheard of for the player to then go off, a la chad j in the past 3 games.

i DO NOT want to be the guy playing Holt when he goes OFF in the playoffs.

Agree with you about Bruce no longer being the threat he once was. Teams are double teaming Holt a lot more then in years past because they are not fearing the other WR.

This has been my thought. Still, it's crazy that a guy like "Big Game" can be so completely shut out...

Bulger is dumping it off on check-downs. I can't see on TV enough whether Holt is not open but today atleast I didn't see a lack of time to get it to him. Those that did go to him he simply wasn't that open.

I have Holt in 3 leagues and I am already in the playoffs in all 3. There is more to a FF teram the one player.

This just reinforces the fact that Orlando Pace is the most valuable player in that offense.

i do see that jax is getting more receptions, but IIRC holt has gotten 10+ targets in the last 3 weeks.

Why would you say that?I have Holt and I am in the playoffs and have won the scoring title. It has bothered me but I think the law of averages will catch up. The way it is going I will expect a big game from him in the playoffs. If I dont get that big game I still have a better then avg shot at winning. I drafted well.I am a wizard.Seriously what makes you say people with Holt wont be in the playoffs?

To add to this, I'm 9-2 with Holt. I just am perplexed more than anything. My games are getting tighter and tighter and I could use a difference maker at WR2 or flex. You'd think Holt an obvious #1... :wall:

Honestly, it was sarcasm born out of frustration more than anything. I have Holt in one league, and I will make the playoffs, but I consider him more of a liability than an asset. Afterall, I can't bench him, but I don't expect him to improve either.

Well i have had it. Im clinging to a playoff spot. Next week im going with T Copper. Bress is playing too good. I cant have 3pts in that spot anymore. since week 6 Holt probably isnt top 40 in WR's

Fair enough. I do think he will have a few big games. Do you know any ocho cinco owners?

Holt is no longer a MUST-START. He simply isn't.

Here are his point totals in my league the last five weeks: 4/5/7/6/3

One or two weeks could be a mirage. Five weeks is a trend.

Here is my impression of the Rams offense.

Bulger back to pass....

looks deep, feels a heavy pass rush....

dumps off to Jackson.

I'm getting pretty effing tired of that play. It's the only thing they run these days. :hot:

Well I will tell you as a Holt owner I am a lock into the playoffs but because of him I've slipped from 1st place down to 3rd.

I'm going to lose to a TE because Holt didn't even crack 10 points for us today.

I'm hoping Jennings looks good on MNF and Colston makes it back next week.

I'm REALLY considering sitting Holt. He even fumbled the ball again today, not like him.

Yeah go with the guy who caught one pass, a hail mary at that. Sounds like a winning strategy.

Say what you want that 10 pts is more than Holt in any of the last 6 weeks. Copper has out scored him since week 6. I dont care who it is if he isnt producing i will find someone who is. Holt isnt a #1 anymore this season and IMO he is an avg 3rd at best.. Its not like im happy my franchise player is worthless. If it wasnt for Brees i would be in the bottom part of the league. I dont put up with low points. I play to win the game... :pics:

I was losing when he was on fire and Chad J was doing nothing. holt went cold and Chad J heated up and I am on a five game win streak. Eventually he will break out just like Chad, and if you have been winning with out him, it makes you even stronger.

:goodposting: plus Bulger missed Holt by about 10 yards today for a long TD.

I'm sure people who benched Chad Johnson earlier in the season were happy to miss out on his 3td game.I've been around a while, and most anyone who has recognizes that WRs are streaky. If they're name isn't Jerry Rice, they have good games mixed with mediocre ones. But, at the end of the season, the most talented always have the best stats. Torry Holt will finish the season in or damn close to in the top 5 WRs.

I agree with HULK here. He is pretty smart when he isn't angry.

I'm sure he was just speaking out of frustration, but I'll bet there are a bunch of owners missoiing the playoffs this year, largely, because of Holt. When you spend a first or second round pick on a WR1, and then he lays an egg for four or five straight weeks, it can be devastating. When your opponents WR1 is getting Chad Johnson, Terrell Owens, or Steve Smith numbers. EWveryone has a bad game now and then, but this stretch has been ridiculous.

You should have know this was coming. Before the season started, the Rams said they were going to run more. At first they didn't and got their cones kicked repeatedly. This past week is what you are going to see from here on out. A ton of Steven Jackson and running the ball.

And with Colston still hurting (and killing me), thankfully so! I started him today alongside Cotchery and it worked out. Unfortunately, I don't know if I can start him again until week 16... Chicago and @OAK. Very much ungood. Colston can't come back soon enough, and I'm stuck seriously considering Cotchery over Holt for Week 1 of the playoffs. Ugh.

I understand your pain. I have to decide (in a ppr) league, whether to start Rudi Johnson vs. Raiders or Holt vs. Bears...ugggggh.
