Home Dome teams kicking tail (1 Viewer)

I've been terrible picking playoff games ATS this year (3-5) so I was looking at the results to see if there's anything I've been missing.

One thing jumped out at me -- home teams in domes have been rolling.

Wild Card

Arizona (home dome team) wins

Dallas (practically a home dome) wins

Cincy and New England (outdoor teams) lose

Divisional Round

Saints (home dome) win

Colts (home dome) win

Vikings (home dome) win

Chargers (outdoor team) lose

This trend is kind of bumming me out. I love football outside, in the elements. Dome games almost make me feel like I'm watching basketball.

Clearly my picks for the weekend are now the Colts and Saints.

Interesting topic I think, in fact I was thinking along the same lines...

What has caused (at least) dome teams to be the cream of the crop all year (not just in the playoffs)? Please weigh-in here.

NFL Dome teams:

Dallas Cowboys (semi-dome) - NFC #3 seed

New Orleans Saints - NFC # 1 seed

Arizona Cardinals (semi-dome)

Minnesota Vikings - NFC # 2 seed

Indianapolis Colts - AFC # 1 seed

St. Louis Rams - 1-15

Detroit Lions - 2-14

The Rams and Lions hasn't as we all know been great but I guess they have issues beyond what kind of stadium they play in, so I'm going to leave them out of further discussion solely by the fact that they are bottom-dwellers in the league right now.

So what's causing this?

Coincidence, these teams would be just as good playing outside? The fact that the league is putting an emphasis on the passing game and protecting quarterbacks (and dome teams are built to win by passing)?

It appears that playing great defense and running the ball is not the way to win in the playoffs anymore, if not the Jets win it all.

I would almost like to see a rushing team win it all but I just can't root for the Jets...

That's kind of what I was thinking -- it seemed like for much of this year, the NFL had gotten to be more of a touch football league than ever before. If you could count to 5 Mississippi fast enough and gently touch the QB before he threw the ball, you could stop an offense. Otherwise, though, defense and the running game had no place. But then the Ravens and Jets, built like traditional run the ball and play defense champions, won Wild Card games. So I started to re-evaluate the whole Touch Football thing. Which is when I realized that the NFL isn't just a Touch Football league this year, it's a Touch Football Inside the Gym Because it's Raining or Cold Outside league.
