Crowd chanting Ham-il-ton. Unreal.
Mentioned in another thread that I was there tonight. Obviously the opposition is rarely (never) cheered at the Stadium, but tonight we were pulling for him as loudly as I've heard for ANYONE in the years I've been going to games. I would say O'Neill's sendoff, the old guys at Old-Timer's Day, and Mattingly's ovations are at the top...Jeter a slight notch below...then Hamilton tonight. Place was going absolutely bananas with every pitch. I found myself sitting there and thinking about how awesome it must feel to be in his position right now considering where he came from just a couple years ago. Just felt really great for the guy, and I was getting chills at the atmosphere. We have the 61 game plan so I've gone to a ton of games this year but haven't really had any "Yankee Stadium moments", unforgettable type stuff in the final season. Well, this qualifies. One of the most amazing and coolest things I've ever seen in sports.ETA: Apparently the three responses above mine don't echo the same sentiments. I feel bad for you guys that you can't wrap yourselves around an emotional story because it's not "cool" to do so. Bunch of grinches.

Why do you feel bad for us?Because we don't think it would be cool for Morneau to give the trophy to Hamilton?"Hey Hamilton! Here's a trophy that you didn't win but I'm going to give it you because you used drugs and now you don't" Yea right. I don't think Hamilton would want the trophy because of that. I think Hamilton wants to be treated like everyone else, except he has to pee for officials more often. Just because someone overcomes his demons doesn't grant him a free pass or a free anything. Now explain it to me and the other grinches why you should feel bad for us.

Any other Hamilton owners afraid that Hamilton may be gassed for a while during the season. I would hate to see his numbers plummet like Abreu's did after he dominated the Derby in 04.

It's a great story, no doubt. I'm just sick of hearing about it. When people tallk Hamilton, I'd rather just hear about the incredible year he is having, not the "demons he's faced that make facing the ghosts of Yankee Stadium easy."Is that ok?

I enjoyed Hamilton's bombs as much as anyone last night. That said, I almost turned the volume off halfway thru his run as the announcers were making me ill and if Morneau would have offered him the trophy that would have been one of the lamest things I've ever seen. Justin won....maybe he even paced himself a little bit in the first two rounds to win. Not only that, he would have put Hamilton in a very odd situation as there is no way Hamilton could accept it. I still think Morneau was rooting for Hamilton to beat him and he probably thought that Hamilton was the true home run god last night, but Morneau still won according to the rules. As someone else said, Morneau got a trophy, Hamilton stole the show and will be remembered.

He does know this isn't a sprint, right?
nope, I guess not.
morneau won a cute little trophy.hamilton won over america.
Really?I'm pretty sure Hamilton wanted that cute little trophy. The guy put on a great show, but lost...........that is what I'm going to remember.
yeah he wanted the trophy. you could tell on his last out. ill remember that 1st round for what it was. effing awesome. but ill also remember that crazy canuck that realized he had to pace himself to win.

Because you're obviously playing with less than a full deck.
Why are we playing with less then a full deck?Because the ####ification factor hit some of you but not all of us?Hamilton is a crack addict who overcame it. I'm happy for him. What he did in the first round was amazing. But to tell us that Morneau should have given him the trophy? WTF?If that is true, why even have a HR derby? If it was up to some of you it should have just been: Monday night with HamiltonGood God, do all of you get this way for every recovering addict?

yeah, i doubt hamilton would've accepted the trophy. it didn't really matter.

"More than anything else," he said, "I'm glad my family got to see this. Whether I'd hit 50 or hit none, I'm sure this is hard for people to believe, but I wouldn't have been disappointed if I didn't hit any.

"I got a chance, when I was in the middle of that streak, to look up and see my mom and dad and family and everybody, just absolutely laughing and cheering. And I mean, that's priceless."

morneau seemed great about the whole thing. he did seem like he was hoping hamilton would pass him.

strangely, i think it worked out exactly as it should've.

what's interesting to me is that the "legend of hamilton" is officially reaching the annoying faze for many people. thats' sad, but also very normal. there are so many media outlets "ramming" this story down people's throats. it's the natural progression of information overload. (by the time he signs a monster contract with yankees, the hamilton annoyance will be out of control)

personally, i'm a sap, so i can't get enough. i don't know if he'll be able to continue this, but i hope he does and i'll enjoy it while it lasts. i'm not a religious man, but i enjoy that hamilton's belief in a higher power helped him get to this point. i got a little teary eyed last night and i'm not ashamed of it.

now excuse me while i go purchase my #32 rangers jersey to go along with the vikings #4 jersey that i just ordered.

That's a cute little rant there.
