Home Security (1 Viewer)

So...a very intoxicated black woman wandered past my barking dogs and into my house yesterday while the housekeeper was cleaning. She cooked a little food and passed out in my bathroom. The house was open so she didn't "break" in, but she clearly was trespassing and made an unlawful entry into our home. The police removed her from the house and when asked why she was there she told them emphatically that I liked the black pu__y.

This particular individual didn't present any real danger beyond burning some food in our kitchen, but it raises a concern about home security. We have infant twin girls at home and apparently our vicious guard dogs aren't going to stop anyone. This leaves us in the position of looking for a home security system and potentially some non lethal self defense weapons. We have the lethal kind, but clearly not the occasion to blow someone's head off.

What do you guys use for a home security? I think this goes way beyond just an alarm now as they offer camera's and smoke/carbon monoxide detection as well. What do these systems typically cost and how useful are they? We live in a safe area and we don't want to go overboard, but I don't want the wifey thinking I'm the next Hugh Grant...

Thoughts?

Get a Crash of Rhinos with lasers mounted to them, their horns tipped with Death Adder venom, and feed them a steady stream of meth and red bull cocktails.

Get a housekeeper who can ask a stranger wtf they're doing in your house?
Im sure this is how it went down:

House keeper: What are you doing? You dont belong here!

Intruder: You know he liked the black pu__y.

HK: LoL, He liked the brown pu__y too! Make yourself at home.

My contract with Xfinity home was up last month and looking for a new system/company. Verizon and Vivint are two I'm comparing now.

Yea, not sure you need to do much other than lock your door. I bet this same women tries for the door, sees its locked, and wanders off to your neighbors.

That being said, there are tons of security systems out there. I'm not super familiar with home security systems, but I'd suggest:

 1. Lock your doors and windows.
 2. If you want a low-cost surveillance system, you could go with something like this. There are a ton of others like this system that do essentially the same thing. Relatively easy to setup, but you could find someone knowledgeable to do it, if you didn't feel comfortable.
