Horrible year for veteran QBs (1 Viewer)

What would Lemmy do?
Seems like it's been an awful year for veteran qbs. Not superstars like Manning or Palmer, but solid journeyman types, some of whom were projected to be solid #2 fantasy QBs. Seems like almost any team with a hot young prospect behind a veteran player made the change at some point in the season.

Drew Bledsoe - benched

Jake Plummer - benched

Brad Johnson - benched

Kurt Warner - benched

Kerry Collins - benched

Jake Delhomme - ineffective/hurt

Jon Kitna - struggling

Trent Green - hurt/struggling

Aaron Brooks - hurt/horrible

Daunte Culpepper - hurt/ineffective when he played

Rookies seem to be thrown into the mix with less hesitation, mostly due to the poor play of the veterens in front of them. Also, the younger QBs seem to be doing pretty well compared to the guys they have replaced. Are rookies/young QBs better prepared than they used to be?

Ya, that Brees guy sure has been sucking it up....

Not to mention McNair, Bulger, Garcia and Brady (with no offensive receiving threats)....

He specifically said that he wasn't talking about superstars- VERTERAN JOURNEYMEN ONLY. That rules out both Brady and Brees.Garcia and McNair are two. Bulger has done ok. Other than that he gave many more examples than you, and I definitely see his point.

Yeah, seems like extraordinarily high turnover this year.

In one league, I went through... Bledsoe, Brooks and Plummer... had them all after the draft and felt good about my QB situation. : (

Early on made a trade for Delhomme... and that didn't work too hot. Recently I acquired Kitna for my playoff run... and that isn't going well either.

I actually made the championship game and I think I'm starting Derek Anderson this week... yikes!

My QB play is the sole weak spot of my team... I really thought that one of the five vets I drafted or acquired would have come through for me.

Brees was NOT a superstar, and McNair was a fading warrior, and Bulger was injured a good chunk of last year - and Garcia was basically written off completely.

Instead of "veteran", you could say Quarterbacks 34 years of age or older. That would include Bledsoe, Warner, T. Green, B. Johnson, Kitna, Brunell, Favre, and Garcia. Only Garcia is playing well in limited time.

Umm Brees was a superstar in SD the last two yrs

I think it boils largely down to mobility. Not that a QB needs to be able to scramble for 30 yards but they do have to have the ability to move within the pocket due to the ever increasing blitz schemes. Nearly each of those guys were replaced by more mobile players.
