Hot Tub Guys - Shot the Lock off teh Wallet (1 Viewer)

after moving from NY and leaving our Vita Spa behind, we finally decided to take the plunge and buy another. in this area, dealers are limited and the industry has consolidated, so i was figuring i would wind up with something sub par. went to the only local dealer that carries Maxx Spas (cal cooperidge, vita, maxx) and they were running a great special on the Vita Prestige, if you got their color combo (gypsum shell/espresso cabinet) the Vita Tunes bluetooth speakers came with (500-) value, so we did. 2 pumps, 53 jets, pretty stoked.

now the site work part.......which is never as easy as just droppping the thing down. i need to run electrical a fair distance with trenching, clear an area towards my back corner, pour a 12x20 pad, cap off irrigation. hopefully i can be in for xmas or festivus.

anyone get a new tub recently or just enjoy theirs? vita owners here? i have read great reviews on this tub and never had a problem with my previous Vita.

I have a hot tub... don't know what brand.. bought it new from Costco.. got great reviews.

I use it all the time in the fall through spring and drain it in the summer.. my kids love it.. my wife hates it..

No, not a swinger.

always think about doing this, wife against it. give me the details. how much $ we talking start to finish? how much upkeep time we looking at?

We stayed at a house this fall with one and my 5 year old fell in love with it. He frequently brings it up at dinner and tells me that I should buy one.

I bought this one for 3999.00. 3 years ago. Radio/mp3 player, great jets, led light, waterfall type thingy, 2 pumps and really deep. The only trouble I have had was with the cover. The cover on my old hot tub was much better but it did not fit the new one. They delivered to the house too. I can attest to the quality and you can't beat the price. I recommend getting the blue shell because it goes really good with the led lights.

i think the hot tub is 10x better than a pool and can be used all year round. in fact, its better during the fall and winter. maintenance is easy via chlorine tablets pre sized. clean the filters every so often. wa la. hard wiring in at 240v 60amps adds maybe 10- a month to the electrical bill. its great in the evenings. depends on your lifestyle. i figure all in with site work will run me about 8k. the tub was on sale at 5999-. its a heckuva lotta tub for that price. i wanted to spend less, but felt the deal was too good.

Yea I would much rather have a hot tub than a pool. My pool is a bottomless money pit and while I like using it, it's hard to keep up with.

i live in NC, home of the subdivision....virtually all have a comunity pool, mine has 3. but with no kids it doesnt seem worth the money.

Also, every other week some kid ####s the pool. so while the tub may have some killable bacteria, its better than swimming in human feces. #######

I'm onboard with the hot tub over pool. Question is do you think you'll have kids?If yes then pool trumps the hot tub. Now if you don't want kids or sterile ,limp dicked or whatever then a pool is stupid

Now for the obvious question, aren't you moving to Cali?

Nah - I have one, and we use it at least twice a week. Almost everyone I know who has one uses it frequently.

Easy to keep up with, too. Once a week with bromine (or chlorine - take your pick), drain / fill 4x a year, and that's about it. Had mine 5 years - never had a bacteria problem.

If you moved next year, would the hot tub add any value to your home?

i moved without my tub from NY and, while it didn't add any $$ value per se, i think it was a "wow, the house has a hot tub" kind of thing. it is considered portable and, realistically, we can have the spa place move it for us, but it would not be included in the sale of the house.

How much time does one spend in a hot tub per daily use? Whenever Ive been in one at some resort, it was for maybe 10 minutes and that was enough.

We have had several tubs from this company. Really well made.

We use it year around, where as the pool only gets used during the summer months. Very nice to sit in after a long hard day, or when it is snowing outside it is fun. The kids use it all the time. Oh, the best part just turn off the heat in the summer and still use the jets.
Edit to add: Tried the swinging but at the end of the day the hot tub is just to freakin' hot to do it in.

Weird question perhaps, but how far are your tubs from your house? I want one but the most logical place to put it is a bit of a hoof from the main living area. Down a flight of stairs to the rec room, out the back door, down another flight from the deck, across the lawn. Concerned the distance will limit its use. Thoughts?

acutally, we are putting ours to the back corner of our lot. distance is no matter, but running electrical will cost a bit more.
