Houston Friends Stay Safe (1 Viewer)

We've got 6+ inches of rain up here in north Texas since Saturday night.

Some areas of Houston have gotten 14+ in the last 24 hours, and the storms are still training over the same area.  Looks like rain for the next 24 more hours or so.

Basically the city is shut down.  Stay safe everyone down there.

Thanks Russ, same to you. Had water rise in my subdivision's streets, but thankfully didn't hit alarming levels yet before it started to recede again. Think a few areas nearby got a lot more than we did.

Lost my car in the last flood here.  This time I'm staying home.   It's crazy how quick the water rises in this city.

Saw a dude miss drowning in his car by what seems to be a matter of seconds on live tv this morning.

Video:  http://abc13.com/news/video-reporter-steve-campion-rescues-driver-from-flood/1296639/

i think if he waits ten more seconds, he doesn't get that door open.
On that note, anyone who lives here might want to consider keeping a glass breaking tool in their car. Hopefully I'll never put myself in a situation to need it but never know what might happen in the dark on an unfamiliar road.  Picked something up at Home Depot meant for it, like hammer but with a point so all the force hits a tiny spot, and keep it in a storage spot on my driver's side door.

Edit: Something like this though mine's a different model. Both have a seat belt cutter too:  http://www.amazon.com/SavALife-Car-Escape-Hammer-Emergency/dp/B00H3X01EM/ref=sr_1_17?ie=UTF8&qid=1461005297&sr=8-17-spons&keywords=glass+breaking+tool&psc=1

Many years ago (before we were married) my wife bought a new car...........without power windows.

I told her, "I didn't even know they made cars w/o them", she said "yes and I have a tool in my glove box to break open a window in case I ever drive into a lake".

I just sort of shrugged and asked "that was a big selling point" and "you even thought about that"?

Still married her though, and all our cars have power windows now.
