This is assuming we find out DD won't play or will be extremely limited (a big if). I'm guessing no one has the roster spots to grab all 3 and if you just have 1 spot you've got to pretty much take a shot.

But if you had 2 spots available (for until start of week 1) and wanted to cover your bases on this as well as possible who would you take.

General Board Feelings (as far as I can tell):

A. Smith

34 years old, not that talented. BUT he seems to be the back-up until we hear otherwise.

W. Lundy

Looks great so far, lots of potential. But was a late round pick and those guys generally don't get handed a job like this.

V. Morency

Waiting to see what he does in pre-season. Other than not having played yet no good reason for him being behind Lundy.

You said it yourself. Could we pleeeeeeease just wait for Morency to actually step on to the field before annointing Lundy the next Unitas?

Seems like most are favoring taking the 2 guys that actually have some potential.

I'm still not convinced any of these guys are worth a flier given that we don't know what's happening with DD and even if we knew him to be out we don't know if it'll fall into RBBC.

Morency.

Thanks for the new DD backup thread

You now need to narrow this polldown to either Morency or Lundy.
Actually, I think it's between Lundy and Chris Taylor. Too bad Taylor has been ignored by the poll.Per Kubiak, these are the two who have been understanding and applying the Denver one-cut running style he wants from his RBs.

It's Morency's job to lose at this point. Kubiak wouldn't have worked with him so hard on his style if he didn't feel he needed to get his one back with game experience (that isn't a fossil) to be on the field this season.

The way I see it at the moment:

1. Morency

2. Lundy

3. Smith = third down back

Being a houstonian and a very loyal TEXAN fan for years i can tell you this....(since my drafts are over)

A.Smith looks to be nothing more than a backup....he's a veteran and if nothing goes right then i assume they will plug him in and let him get about 65yrds a game. He is a horrible option though imo for this offense.

NOW

W.Lundy: I watched the whole game and me and a few of my other best friends that play FF thats also from houston watched the game. What we saw with Lundy is that he had some nice and i mean nice holes to run though...he did nothing special..he showed some determination though so i will give him that. Its seem like he was slow, BUT he did 1 cut and head upfield and thats what coach wants from his rb's. I also saw him drop a wide open pass in the flats with NO ONE around him....you have to have hands in this off for a rb. I think he is someone good to have cause you never know.

Morency: I have all my money on him.....Last year he showed skills to have plenty texans including myself sayhe was our most talented rb. Yes i know DD is very good but really we already had a very nice system for rb's. DD played tough, very tough and was versitile.....had awesoem hands but wasnt very fast and didnt have that wiggle that most rb's have in the open field....he was ran down on numerous occasions but HE WAS THE FOCAL POINT of our offense, thsu what made him the stud he was. Last year in the preseason Morency made moves on top of moves and some great runs...he has that excellent BURST you wanna see out of your rb when you hand him the ball....last year as a rook he did try to outrun everyone to the edges and was trying to juke everyone...worked sometime but not all the time. He also has nice hands. He has nice low center of gravity, probaly isnt one of the faster rb's but he has alot of burst/acceleration (reminds me of a young Fred Taylor). Coach was down on him at mini camp for playing in the backfield instead of hitting it and go. But he worked on it in training camp. I expect him to seize the job and dont give it back......this is just my view of it from being a texan fan, i thik the most talented rb will win out.

But hey..........Kub did draft Lundy.......But at that same token they did bring in A.Smith....so most can look at it how they want.

I think alot will get cleared up saturday.

Undercova, great analysis from someone who follows the team.

I've picked up Lundy and Morency and will be holding them while we watch this develop. I really don't feel like DD is going to have much to give this year. But I'm also concerned that they'll try to limit his knee pain by going with RBBC.

I wouldn't take two of these backs under almost any circumstances. I would gamble with one of them but not waste two roster spots on both. And if you are the gambling type then you should be looking at Vernand and Lundy, if Antowain got every carry, which he wont, he would max out at 1,000 yards and 6 TDs and that's being generous.
