When an NFC teams plays an AFC team, how is the TV coverage decided? I know the networks have deals with the conferences but how do these games like DAL - NE get decided?

CBS is covering this one. How does that work for FOX?

J

the visiting team usually gets their normal network-NE=CBS

ETA-my brother-in-law is a cameraman for FOX in KC so he's always pumped up when an NFC team comes to visit. Normally they don't get to broadcast the games there...

Take it you're as equally unimpressed with 1080i as everyone else is? CBS HD is almost unwatchable, Fox is great...

This is the answer. It started in the 70's when home games were blacked out, and the broadcast rights belonged to the network of the visiting team. Later, when the home black outs were lifted with a sellout, this rule was kept.

Yeah, the visiting team's network gets the rights to interconference games. That lets CBS for example get to see teams/go to stadiums they don't always get to broadcast.

EDIT: And even better answer above me.

Visiting team's conference network always gets the game. That way CBS gets a piece of the big NFC market games in CHI, DAL, and NYG, while the Fox crews get a couple annual boondoggles to MIA and SD. There's a little bit in it for everyone, so it all works out.

If the home team is an NFC team, then the game will be on CBS.

If the home team is an AFC team, then the game will be on Fox.
