How big of a deal is it to trade with a guy in your division? (1 Viewer)

Guy in my division is 1-2. Has Warner as his QB who is on bye, with no backup. I am looking to move Carson Palmer (who is my backup). Also has his TE Celek on bye with no backup rostered. This is a league with deep benches so the waiver wire caliber of player is pretty low. Looking at throwing an offer of Palmer and Winslow to possibly pick up Welker from him, as his WRs are pretty deep. I am not asking for advice on the trade. My question is, what is everyones policy on trading in the division? Do you completely avoid helping him fill those spots or do you just make the move that is best for your team and hope it works out? Overall his team does not look very strong and I don't see much potential for him making the playoffs either way, but curious to see what others think.

I play in a 12 team league with two divisions in each of two conferences (3 teams per division). In my opinion, as long as you are making your team better you make the trade. I will consider what it does for teams inside of my division, but only then and it's not a driving force in making a deal in any way.

If it helps your team...preferably more than his....you make the trade...

If he needs help....he can still shop elsewhere if you choose not to trade with him...

I trade in the division....its just a little dicier when you make those moves.....

Did one last year when I was in 2nd and he was in 3rd...helped both of us....I ended up winning the division....he ended up as the wild card.....

I'm all for trading if it helps my team, division or not.

In your case, you'd be giving him Palmer (who could torch the Browns) when he'd otherwise have to use Henne or J Russell. That could definitely cost you this week's game. If I was confident my team is playoff bound, and felt this week's game doesn't matter much- then I'd still do trade within my Division.

Bottom line: If you believe the trade in the long run offsets possibly giving a guy a win this week. Then go for it.

I agree with what has been said....if it makes your team better, pull the trigger.

In my league, there has only been 1 trade in 15 years between teams in the same division. Everyone is gunshy and doesn't want to be the guy to put their opponents in the playoffs over them. It's really lame. Basically means I can trade with only half of the league every year. Makes it really difficult to find trading partners.

If it makes your team better I don't think it makes a diff, I just don't trade with the guy I'm playing that week.
