How diverse is your league? (1 Viewer)

ah, diversity, multi-culturalism, the staples of modern education.... and political correctness

i go with the last guy: 14 nerds

 
In my opinion this is a really stupid question. Who really cares. This is not a loan application.

As long as they know football I could care less what or who they are.

 
I think it is an interesting question. I would like to ask in my online leagues but don't want to be "that " guy.

Hardcore 16 team league, big money, most teams in it for over 10 years

and she kicked our butts, a lesbian.

Yup. She beat me three times, twice in the regular season and once in the playoffs. She won it all. She not only won the championship, but the scoring title, and several of the individual categories as well.

It is a redraft league. We had our meeting tonight to go over rules and draw for draft position.

Her T-shirt as custom made and said....

"I beat 15 guys"

the back was

"and they paid me for it."

The waitresses at the bar laughed their ###es off at us.

A-yup. Diversity sucks.

I agree. The waitresses brought over a round of Apple-tinis to us. Yea. Big fun <_< What would coachjim say in my shoes earlier tonight.But gosh darnit, those were goooood tinis......peace

Is there really a professional pot farmer in your league? 6 lawyers? Now that's diverse.
 
:popcorn: I like this question, so I'll play along. My league is pretty diverse I beleive.

5 Black Males

2 Half Black & White Males

3 White Males * One of the white males is the Eminem type if you know what I mean, we all call him white chocolate.

1 Filipino (I think that is the correct spelling, sorry if it is not)

1 White Female

 
Interesting... I'll play....

On one hand:

5 black guys

6 white guys

1 half korean, half white guy

On the other hand:

5 retired military

2 military contractors

1 stay at home dad

3 active duty military guys

1 medical equipment engineer

And on the last Hand:

4 single dudes

8 married dudes

yep. went to college with him. he's got a degree in engineering, but as far as I know he hasn't had a job in his life. it's a family business handed down the generations.

3 guys who think they know, but don't.

1 guy who says he doesn't know anything, but still wins often.

2 guys who know they stink, but likes to play anyways.

1 guy who does nothing without asking people on message boards.

1 guy who every year lets the computer pick his team and does nothing else all season.

1 asian guy, 1 guy from Sri Lanka, and the rest are black or white. As with others, I don't give a damn as long as they know their football.

 
Depends which league. In my main league, 8 men and 2 women, all white (although 1 is French Canadian, that counts for something, right?).

In my second league 9 men, 3 women, all white.

In my third league, 8 men, 4 white, 4 latino.

Generally, I find diversity to be meaningless in terms of fantasy football.

 
The 14 team dynasty league I commish:

2 African American men

1 Hispanic American man

1 Irish Catholic woman

3 Italian American men

1 German/Italian American man

1 German/French American man

2 Irish American men

3 Anglo-Saxon American men

 
I allow no diversity in my league. I have 12 humans, and I stand by that.

We try and maintain racial diversity in my main league. It's not hard because spots are in very high demand. We try and rotate a few spots every year to give new people a chance and to remove owners who were not as active as we hoped. Three of us who are permanent members in the league make up the New Membership Panel, and we review applications each year to find people who are a good fit.

A few years ago, we replaced 8 spots over two years, all with Caucasians. Not anything we meant to do, just worked out that way. This raised some questions and concerns among some minority applicants, so the year after (2005) we put in a rule that said that at least 3 of the 12 owners had to be either African American, Asian, or Native American.

I know some of you might be wondering why Hispanics are not included - for some reason we almost never get Hispanic applicants. I am not familiar with their culture, but I'm guessing fantasy sports are not considered "machismo" or something, but the point is, we get very few applications with "Hispanic" checked off. We have one permanent Hispanic in the league and he is a great owner (won the championship in 2007, beat me by 7 points).

 
At first, 12 mid 20's single guys having a blast getting together, drafting some players, and watching football together.

Now, 12 mid 30's guys going on 40, most with a wife and multiple kids, some divorced, all still having a blast, drafting some players, and watching some football together...Certainly less watching together, but still haviing a BLAST!

One year we had an owner bail at the last minute and couldn't find a replacement in time, so after we drafted, a ghost team was picked from the best of the rest. The ghost team actually started out 1-0 that year against one of the weakest owners I've ever played with. He is no longer in the league, I think the embarassment was too much for him to handle. As far as the OP, that year was 9 white guys, 2 white girls, and 1 ghost.Nowadays, 1 league is 12 middle-aged white guys2nd league is 10 white guys and 2 white girls, no more ghosts (We used to have a black guy in that league, but he moved, and he wasn't the owner that bailed that created the ghost.3rd league is 24 owners, and I don't even know all of them (2 separate drafts of 12) I got into the league via the commish of league 2. I know one guy is middle eastern or Indian. I think there is one Hispanic also, but it is mostly white guys and 1 or 2 white girls.
 
African American: 2

Asian: 1

East Indian: 1

Caucasion: 8

Had a woman in the league, at one point, but she quit after finishing last 3 years in a row.

 
In the only league that I care about we are 12 men, white as the driven snow. We DO have 2 jews though so that counts for diversity right?

In fairness that league was created and developed in Iowa, where I grew up, and there isn't a lot of diversity there in the cornfields.

I've been living in California for (pretty much) the last 12 years, the last 6 years in San Francisco and all of the leagues that I've been in here are much more diverse. Many Asians, Middle Easterners and South Americans.

As far as I can tell peope, regardless of culture, nationality or ethnicity, that like Football are equally attracted to fantasy football.

 
14 teamer.

11 white guys

2 black guys (there are probably only four in the whole town though)

1 girl/woman.

 
8 White Guys, 2 Indian Guys

or

8 moderates, 1 Rush Limbaugh type conservative, 1 radical type liberal

or

5 Catholics, 2 Jews, 1 Jain (yes, it's a religion), 1 Hindu, 1 Agnostic

 
Keeper league from college, I know 4 of us are white guys, haven't met the others face to face so don't know other than that they are male.

My now defunct work league ended with 7 white guys, 1 white woman, 4 black guys.

Dynasty league that was mostly formed from the two previous leagues and some local friends from another league has 9 white guys, 1 black guy, and 2 of the guys from the college league that I haven't met face to face so don't know.

 
To the OP:

Perhaps a more interesting question would have been:

How does the racial diversity of your primary FF league compare to your social circle. Is it more diverse, less diverse, or about the same?

Not that the above responses weren't interesting, they were. Just think this would have been more enlightening.

 
Our league is very diverse:

1 Eagles fan

2 Cowboys fans

1 Redskins fan

1 Stillers fan

1 Colts fan

1 nondenominational L'ville fan

2 nondenominational Gators fans

Rest are either Jags fans or nondenominational college fans.

 
In the three leagues I've played in over the last 4 years, every single person has been white (although there are 2 guys I've never met, so they might not be).

Where I live the population is 97% white....just not a lot of opportunity to include other races.

I have played with about 6 or 7 different women, though (I run a basic free league with several couples in it).
