How do you decide between who starts? (1 Viewer)

Ok here is my delimma and this isnt a WDIS thread!!!! Ive got 5 recievers in a start 3 league. Pretty much set on my 2 but my 3rd WR really is a toss up. What i was wondering is what thought processes do you use to determine really closely ranked players?

Now dont get stuck on the names because i dont want this to be a WDIS.

TO-given

Wayne-given despite the tough match up

Holmes vs. Cards Ward hurt might bump up his receptions and Az def not giving up many TDs might involve passing more.

McDonald vs. Bears Great reciever, throw happy O, Def secondary banged up, and he is doing well this yr. with CJ ailing, might be an excellent play.

Curry vs. Phins Streaky but I think CPep would improve his stability.

Now you dont have to address my specific lineup if you have certain criteria you follow when deciding between players who are equally talented or players presented with a better scoring opportunity. orrrrrrrrrrrrrr do you find gut instinct works best?

I would start Benson.

All kidding aside, I have this exact same problem every week in both of my leagues. I usually look at the best combination of matchup against a weak D, injuries to team and/or opponent players that may factor in, and sometimes I throw home field advantage in there. If the guy is playing Sunday night or Monday night he gets a slight upgrade, just so I can cheer for him and also gain the false sense of "got an extra guy in the back pocket". My philosophy works some of the time and bombs other times. Good luck.

I look at the pile of players I have. For the ones that I actually have questions about I analyze which teams are hot. I look at many FBG articles. Then, when I've determined who will score the most points, I put them on my bench and keep the low scoring guys active.

Hey...if you look at my selections lately you'd think that!

IF this isn't a WDIS then why include the exact players on your team since you CLAIM that all you want is generic strategy,,,,with YOUR players.

Weekly strategy though,,,I'd compare player rankings from multiple sites. For WR matchups I'd look at the NFL defensive team stats to see which defense that your WR's are playing is giving up the most passing yards so far. I'd study the injury report for not only your WR's but also the other WR's, RB's and QB on the same team as your WR.

Do your homework, check the stats and rankings and use your gut and if you mess up then welcome to the club because none of us are perfect every week.

That's my strategy too! Usually, I make the critical switch at 11:30 on Sunday morning. I told my wife I was going to fire my coach. She looked at me confused and said, "You have coaches?"I'm curious on others' thoughts here too because I always seem to pick the wrong guys. Does anyone every try to determine the balance between a solid player that will put up 50 yds and maybe a TD or the guy that might go 0 or 120 + 2TD. I guess I depends on if you think you can win that week. This week is interesting because of all the #1 RBs that are out.

Everyone has stated some good rules to use when deciding the lineup. One thing that I also use is the hot hand. My preference is to play the hot hand over someone who has been cold. That is probably a major factor when deciding my lineup. In the end it all comes down to my gut feeling. That sure does not sound scientific.

I join a "best-start" league and save a lot of time/analysis on something that's just guess work that doesn't contribute to anything I find enjoyable about FF.

I am a member of two pay sites and a FF message board. I Tivo the NFL network and study our league's stats on CBSsportsline. I take all that knowledge and make about 60% wrong choices on who to start. My bench can probably beat your starters, though. :puffsoutchest:
