I got the TMobile MLB.tv free sub thing, I've kept random games on the ipad up at all times.  FWIW this is the most baseball I've watched in ages.  If I knew this I should have gotten in some fantasy stuff.

What are you talking about? That was the last game he pitched in the majors. He threw 0.1 inning allowed 4H, 3BB, and 4ER.

I only saw the one 4 games earlier.   Even so, his ERA was in line with his season ERA (6.31).  He had 3 BB's and couldn't find the strikezone (I have no idea how close or off those pitches were but regardless he wasn't throwing strikes).  The performance was no worse than his performances earlier in the year against Baltimore, Cincy and Texas.

Bottom line he was not a good pitcher.  The Astros did not end his career.

@matt_breen: Phillies announce that one member of the coaching staff and one member of the home clubhouse staff have tested positive for COVID 19. All activity at Citizens Bank Park has been cancelled today and until further notice.

I agree, the guy sucked but your entire post was wrong.

I missed one outing that was in line with all the others.  The entire post was not wrong.  He has no case.  His career was not ended by the Astros cheating.  It was ended because he was not a good pitcher.

Yeah you missed the one key outing to his lawsuit.

Yeah you missed the one key outing to his lawsuit.
There is no basis for the lawsuit.  It was a publicity stunt trying to get money for a below average pitcher whose career was over anyway..  One outing does not end people's careers especially when it was in line with how he pitched the rest of the season.

So now the Phils are out this weekend, almost certainly. How does baseball make the scheduling work unless they push the playoffs back.

Braves are gonna win the East through attrition!  Thankfully our guys live in Atlanta so they hit the strip clubs early to cycle in through.

I'd be willing to lay money the Phillies have a positive test  for a player tomorrow morning unfortunately.

Are games supposed to be cancelled for staff members being sick now? And weren't the Phillies all apart the last few days. As long as no players test positive by Friday I don't see why they couldn't play. That's almost a full week after the Marlins series ended.

They say it can take 5-10 days to show on a test I believe. If somehow it did take that long and the Phils played, passed it to the jays and then it goes to their next opponent the season is over. Baseball won’t want to roll that dice imo.

and I assume if they get test results Saturday it will be from Thursday or Friday which is still way inside that window of doom.

If it were a visiting clubhouse attendant that would be expected.  But the fact that it was a home clubhouse guy who potentially interacted with a bunch of Phillies is very alarming. Throw in the coach and that's even worse.

Also, players were testing positive in summer camp (Soto, Chapman) and they never cancelled a game. Soto tested positive the day of the opener and they played that night. I guess I don't understand the protocols on when they cancel games.

@KeeganMatheson: #BlueJays Charlie Montoyo:

“We’re not going to Philadelphia. Those games have been postponed.”

If they can work out in Washington, they’ll stay there.

I think trying to be more proactive now, after realizing how much they messed up by letting the Marlins game go forward last weekend after they had positive tests.

ok so you think if a coach on another team tests positive and nobody else, the games will still go on? That was my impression all along. I guess we will see.

I mean, this is just common sense if they want to have a full season. They’ll have to extend the season by 2 weeks to catch up missed games but who cares about that.

What they really should do is have a two week break after the season and do the playoffs in a bubble. Then the season can go until mid-November if the playoff games are all in a bubble either in a warm climate or dome.

I agree. Especially if no fans can come to games, what difference does it make really. Could even do two bubbles for the two leagues like the NHL is doing.

This is a myth.  Nobody lost there job because of one outing against the Astros.  It doesn't work that way.
link?  Maybe not one outing, but it could have been the nail in someone's coffin.

NM, I see this discussion has already happened.

In your defense, I doesn't seem like MLB has any.

Why are most of the players not wearing masks, particularly when in the dugout? I kind of understand easing up on wearing masks when you're playing centerfield, etc., but it seems like they should have masks on the rest of the time.

At BetOnline, REALLY tempted to max the "No" at this point.  Thoughts?

Will there be a World Series in 2020?

Yes  -450

No  +275

Nah they’ll play it for sure. They’ll bubble it if they have to at the end.

how much longer till baseball shuts down and goes to a bubble? This is so stupid.

Sources: Cardinals had positive tests, forcing postponement
Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that Friday's game between the Cardinals and Brewers has been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Heyman says that the Cardinals are the team that had the positive test. It's unclear at this point if it's more than one player/team personnel that tested positive. Joel Sherman of the New York Post adds that the Cardinals are self-isolating at their hotel and not going to the park. Certainly, the entire series between the two clubs would seem to be in jeopardy of being postponed. Friday's game was to be the Brewers' home opener.

This seems like a bad idea.

@markasaxon: So, per source, the #Cardinals for now have been told that, if the rest of the team tests negative (and I haven’t yet been told how many positives they had), the series with the Brewers will start on Saturday.

sounds good, i mean, CV doesn't really spread, does it?  A couple of slurps of bleach to wash down some hydroxicloroquine and things should be fine by saturday.

Simply cant trust these athletes to do the right thing without baby sitters.

Non bubble sports aren't going to work here. That's pretty evident now. I'm fully expecting no college sports at all this year, which freaking sucks.

The thing is I thought this was the plan all along (even if it was a stupid one). I never got the impression that one player testing positive would shut down an entire week. How does the NFL plan on handling this?

nobody has really explained how do you have in person college sports when you can't have in person college classes.  Seems a cognitive disconnect there.

If they change the format to a Survivor-style type of season, this might be the Pirates’ best chance at a World Series title in decades. #MaskUpBuccos

On line classes still make them money. Maybe they can convince the networks & season ticket holders to settle for a video game version.
